Civil Engineer IIABOUT THE ROLEJoin our team and become our new full-time Civil Engineer II in the Public Works Department. Reporting to the Village Engineer, this position supervises and participates in the work of technical staff engaged in public works design and construction, and is responsible for technical decisions on engineering problems and plans.
YOUR DAY TO DAY- Supervises Village construction and design activities for streets, alleys, sanitary and storm sewers, water mains, and flood controls.
- Designs projects using CAD (MicroStation Intergraph), checks and corrects completed drawings, and maintains a GIS database of Village utilities and improvements.
- Writes specifications and contract documents and prepares engineering estimates of quantities, costs and elevations.
- Performs level surveys and oversees contract surveyors and inspects construction projects to verify progress estimates and quantity records.
- Reviews traffic studies for proposed developments and intersection improvements, performs permit inspections, and serves as a technical resource for Community Development.
- Identifies and applies for grant and intergovernmental funding, trains peers in technical work, and prepares reports for contractors, property owners, and residents.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUCCESS- Hold a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field, plus a minimum of seven (7) years of professional experience in civil engineering, public works design and construction, or a related field.
- Maintain a valid Certificate of Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer from the State of Illinois, along with a valid Illinois driver's license.
- Demonstrate previous project management experience (preferred).
- Apply CAD (MicroStation Intergraph) and GIS software to design projects and maintain records of Village utilities.
- Exercise sound judgment and initiative, making timely technical decisions and elevating safety, operational, and financial concerns when appropriate.
- Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with management, staff, vendors, contractors, and residents.
