Overview

We are seeking our next Chief of Staff, reporting to the Corporate Vice President of Search Growth and Experiences, to support our organization. The Chief of Staff is a trusted advisor to the CVP, a strategic partner who enables the leadership team and broader organization to operate with clarity, focus, and impact.

This role shapes the organization's strategic agenda, ensures disciplined execution, and leads a high-performing team that enables the CVP and Search Growth and Experiences leadership to operate at scale. The Chief of Staff is both an advisor and an operator, translating vision into execution, accelerating decision-making, and scaling the effectiveness of the leadership team and organization. This role sits at the center of the business, driving execution of priorities, shaping organizational strategy, and ensuring alignment across the leadership team and cross-functional partners.

This opportunity will allow you to influence the future of Microsoft's Search engagement strategy, gain deep exposure to cross-functional leadership, and help drive operational excellence at scale. It is a unique blend of strategic planning, program management, and executive collaboration, ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-impact environment and is passionate about innovation and growth.

Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50- mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction.

Responsibilities
  • Drives the architecting, developing, and executing of the rhythm of business (ROB). Drives strategy initiatives and facilitates the ROB, using strategy plans and a data-driven, analytical approach to inform structure and predict business outcomes, and applying AI and productivity tools to streamline workflow orchestration and improve efficiency. Works with senior leaders to drive outcomes. Partners with internal and external stakeholders to develop plans and negotiate mutual value, seeking common ground and collaborative solutions. Drives the business review cadence. Informs direction for processes related to adherence to privacy and compliance.
  • Leads strategy execution in partnership with the leadership team, uniting cross-functional teams across the organization toward shared goals. Leverages knowledge of the business to drive the leader's and business's goals. Leads and oversees processes to ensure alignment across groups. Sets best practices for long-term company strategy and advocates and presents business cases to senior leadership, gaining support and inspiring trust and confidence. Shares priorities with leaders to negotiate the appropriate level of the team's involvement on initiatives to drive execution of top priorities.
  • Maximizing / Extending the Leader
    • Aligns business activities with the leader's goals and approach. Acts on behalf of the leader to communicate their vision and objectives. Supports and advises on key areas such as goal setting, team culture, communications, budget, and industry knowledge. Synthesizes information and data-driven analysis to provide insights that influence decisions across the organization.
  • Executive Team Communications
    • Leads executive-level communication with a variety of internal and external audiences, adapting messaging around different technologies, products, and services to each audience's level of understanding. Optimizes the leader's time by structuring the communication strategy for the business and organizing the leader's daily communications; performs triage and ghostwriting on behalf of the leader to expedite responses. Develops presentations and messaging to articulate the team's mission, key projects, organizational and company strategy, and vision on behalf of the leader. Ensures alignment with business priorities, proactively seeks out relevant content to communicate to the organization, and manages conflict and sensitivities while guiding the tactical response to crisis situations.
  • Organizational Health
    • Promotes team culture and health by monitoring organizational well-being. Identifies team strengths and development areas, plans and executes training, tracks Microsoft Signals responses, and ensures compliance training completion.
  • Special Projects, Programs, and Initiatives
    • Drives cross-team projects as needed to meet the changing business environment and to manage complex business needs. Plans and steers complex programs toward their strategic milestones, managing dependencies and coordinating hands-on across multiple disciplines and business organizations to ensure organization-wide implementation of strategic efforts, and leveraging AI across the program lifecycle. Creates clarity on ambiguous projects and develops plans for execution.

  • Enable a robust calendar of internal and customer communications including team touchpoints, town halls / all-hands, skip-levels, and customer and partner engagements.
  • Track progress and manage completion of actions across the business using data-driven insights and automation, in alignment with leadership commitments.
  • Ensure business, resourcing, and leadership team capacity are aligned to top business priorities.

Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $142,800 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
