Short Description

Bowman has an opportunity for a CEI Inspector III to join our team in Lacey or Seattle, WA.

Purpose

Lead in performing and tracking daily inspection of construction work on a variety of roadway projects.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction
  • Perform work under limited supervision. Receive direction on complex assignments with general guidance on execution. Work is generally reviewed by more senior staff to ensure application of sound techniques and principles. Review work produced by staff for quality assurance.

At the Operational and Company Level
  • Assist in the maintenance of existing client relationships.

Do the Work
  • Review reports, direct duties, and train all project inspectors.
  • Travel to various project sites to conduct inspection and testing duties.
  • Follow standard procedures and specifications for documentation and inspection of construction activities.
  • Read, interpret, and ensure compliance with construction plans, specifications, and contracts.
  • Complete daily calculating, reporting, documenting, and communicating verbally and in writing.
  • Compute quantities for items such as concrete, asphalt, steel, earthwork, drainage structures, and traffic control devices.
  • Operate company vehicle, computer, and testing equipment.
  • Coordinate construction progress and resolve issues with engineers, contractors, utilities, and government officials.
  • Document field changes and as-built plans.
  • Assist project engineer with progress payments, diaries, and material test reports.
  • Work in an office or outdoor environment in varying weather conditions as required by the project type.
  • Perform and review material testing of concrete, asphalt and aggregates.
  • Confirm materials adhere to specifications.
  • Inspect and verify construction work in process to ensure compliance.
  • Resolve quantity disputes with contractor and ensure plan and contract conformance.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma (GED) required and seven or more (7+) years of experience in roadway and/or bridge construction inspection.
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited institution a plus with five (5) years of experience in roadway and/or bridge construction inspection, and the ability to complete certifications in a reasonable amount of time.
  • Progressively more responsibility and experience on DOT or municipal roadway projects including daily records and reports on asphalt paving, concrete work, grading, structural work, and erosions control preferred.
  • DOT CEI Certifications are a plus. May be required to participate in certification and training courses post-hire as required by OSHA, DOT, or client-specific requirements (i.e. concrete, asphalt certifications, erosion control, and safety training).
  • Knowledge of road and bridge construction techniques, design, DOT specifications and documents, standard operations, policies and procedures of a firm, preferably within the A/E industry required.
  • Proficient using tools and equipment such as air meter, slump cone, transit, level, and tape measure preferred.


Salary and eligible variable compensation (if any) commensurate with experience. Hourly Range $31.00 - $48.00 and includes a comprehensive benefits package.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

  • Primarily outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.
  • Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Partly indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
  • Mobility around an office environment.
  • Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.
