Senior - Quantitative Economics & Statistics

The opportunity

The EY Quantitative Economics and Statistics (QUEST) practice is an interdisciplinary team that brings together more than 50 economists, statisticians, and business analysts, many with deep industry and government experience. A number of our team members have held positions with the US Treasury Department, President's Council of Economic Advisers, Congressional Budget Office, Joint Committee on Taxation, Internal Revenue Service, US Census Bureau, Energy Department, academic institutions and research organizations, state and local governments and multi-lateral organizations - and 70% of QUEST professionals hold advanced degrees in their respective fields. Our team has developed proprietary tools and data-driven approaches based on a deep understanding of economic and tax data from a wide range of sources. This understanding of how each data point is defined and estimated means we avoid common data pitfalls and produce results that preserve the quantitative meaning of the data. We model economic impacts, legislative changes, regulatory impacts, tax policy, climate policy, and conduct surveys.

EY's QUEST practice is seeking an economist to join our team of economists and statisticians as a senior analyst. The preferred office location would be Washington, D.C., however, for exceptional candidates' alternative office locations may be possible.

  • Conduct econometric analysis and forecasting of macroeconomic and fiscal conditions including GDP and tax revenue forecasts
  • Construct economic models to estimate the economic or fiscal impact of policy or regulatory changes
  • Interpret and synthesize academic research in the field of economics and incorporate findings, results, and methodologies into your work
  • Write and edit reports that translate technical quantitative analyses to broad audiences such as government officials and other participants in policy discussions
  • Craft data visualizations that highlight key insights from quantitative analysis
  • Interact with team members and clients in a dynamic public policy environment

Qualifications
  • Master's or Ph.D. in public policy / economics or other quantitative discipline
  • A minimum of 5 years of related work experience, preferably focused on fiscal policy and data analysis, and preferably, within a subnational governmental or multi-lateral fiscal environment

  • Strong technical skills in data analysis using Microsoft Excel (e.g., advanced Excel formulas) and coding languages such as R, Python, SAS and other coding skills are also desirable.
  • Interpersonal skills and a commitment to teamwork and the ability to direct the work of other team members
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a team environment and meet deadlines
  • Willingness to travel as needed and work in a balanced hybrid working environment
