The Business Systems Analyst is responsible for analyzing, improving, and driving connecting the business systems and technology processes that enable the organization to operate efficiently. This position serves as a primary liaison between the business units (estimating, VDC, construction, service, prefab, purchasing, accounting & marketing) and the IT/technology team. This role evaluates business processes, identifies system and workflow improvements, translates operational needs into technical requirements, and supports the implementation, integration, and optimization of business applications. This role requires a strong understanding of both business operations and technology, with particular emphasis on the unique needs of electrical construction and service operations. Position Responsibilities: Business & Systems Analysis • Partner with business units to understand business needs and system requirements. • Analyze existing workflows and business processes to identify inefficiencies, duplication, manual work, data issues, and opportunities for automation. • Translate business requirements into functional and technical specifications, process flows, and acceptance criteria. • Evaluate business applications and recommend improvements that increase productivity, profitability, data accuracy, and operational visibility. • Serve as a subject-matter resource for business applications and technology-enabled processes. Data & Reporting • Use SQL, reporting tools, spreadsheets, and business intelligence platforms to analyze operational and financial data. • Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and key performance indicators for management and operational teams. • Validate data integrity across business applications and identify discrepancies or data-quality issues. • Work with stakeholders to define meaningful metrics and ensure reports accurately reflect business requirements. Systems Integration, Upgrades & Technical Support • Analyze and support integrations between ERP, construction management, estimating, accounting, CRM, service management, timekeeping, payroll, inventory, and other applications. • Work with vendors and IT resources to troubleshoot application and integration issues. • Drive API, file-based, database, and other system integrations. • Participate in application upgrades, implementations, migrations, and system conversions. • Maintain documentation of system configurations, integrations, workflows, and dependencies. Requirements, Testing & Implementation • Develop test plans, test cases, and acceptance criteria. • Coordinate and participate in user acceptance testing with business stakeholders. • Ensure system changes meet business requirements before deployment. Key Business Systems The position will support a variety of systems, including: • ERP and accounting systems • Construction management and project management platforms • Electrical estimating and takeoff software • Job-costing and project accounting systems • Field-service management and dispatch systems • CRM and customer management systems • Timekeeping and workforce management systems • Inventory and purchasing systems • Document management systems • Business intelligence and reporting platforms • Microsoft 365 and related productivity applications • Mobile and field applications • System integrations and APIs Required Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Business, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. • 7-10+ years of experience in business analysis, systems analysis, construction technology, ERP support, or a related role. • Experience driving the design, development and maintenance of API integrations to connect business systems and automated data exchange. • Experience working with business applications and translating operational requirements into system solutions. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. • Working knowledge of SQL, relational databases, data analysis, or reporting tools. • Experience with requirements gathering, process mapping, system testing, and implementation. • Strong understanding of business processes and data flows. • Superior communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical personnel. • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and stakeholders simultaneously. Preferred Qualifications • Experience in electrical contracting, commercial construction, specialty contracting, or a related construction environment. • Experience with construction ERP or project management systems. • Understanding of electrical estimating, project management, job costing, purchasing, change management, and field operations. • Experience supporting field personnel and mobile technology. • Experience with system integrations, APIs, or data interfaces. • Experience with Power BI or similar business intelligence platforms. • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server or other relational databases. • Familiarity with Agile, Lean, or other process-improvement methodologies. • Experience implementing or upgrading ERP, estimating, construction management, or service-management systems.
