Overview

The Business Systems Analyst (BSA) plays a critical role in enabling high-velocity, high-quality product delivery. This role partners closely with Product Owners, Product Managers, Senior BSAs, and engineering teams to translate business needs into clearly defined, testable, and value-driven requirements. The BSA ensures clarity across stakeholders, strengthens backlog quality, supports functional validation, and maintains traceability from discovery through release. This role is essential in driving delivery maturity, improving sprint predictability, and ensuring enterprise solutions meet measurable business outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with Product Owners and Product Managers to translate business needs into detailed user stories with clear acceptance criteria.
  • Write, refine, and maintain high-quality backlog items aligned to product roadmaps and business outcomes.
  • Support backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives to reduce ambiguity and accelerate delivery.
  • Maintain end-to-end traceability of requirements from discovery through development, testing, and release.
  • Identify dependencies, risks, and cross-functional impacts early in the delivery lifecycle.
  • Produce key deliverables including process maps, mockups, data element documentation, data dictionaries, and flowcharts.
  • Document current-state processes and identify opportunities for optimization, automation, and user experience improvement.
  • Ensure requirements account for integrations, data impacts, governance standards, and enterprise architecture considerations.
  • Perform functional validation of completed work to ensure alignment with defined acceptance criteria.
  • Partner with stakeholders during User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to confirm business readiness.
  • Ensure stories are demo-ready and meet defined standards before sprint close.
  • Serve as a liaison between business stakeholders and Enterprise Data technical teams ensuring alignment on scope, priorities, and dependencies.
  • Stay current on system capabilities, integrations, and enterprise application enhancements across platforms, including but not limited to Marketing, Finance, Epic systems.
  • Clearly communicate requirements, risks, dependencies, and business impacts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Support development of materials such as process maps, workflows, release notes, and user guides.
  • Partner with Product Owners to enhance analysis templates, backlog structure, and documentation standards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of analysis standards, templates, and knowledge-sharing practices.

Required
  • 3+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Systems Analyst, or related role within IT or enterprise applications.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Demonstrated experience writing user stories with clear acceptance criteria.
  • Experience working within Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban).
  • Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and structured problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams

Preferred
  • Experience in healthcare, dental, or other regulated industries.
  • Proficiency with Epic (EHR) systems, including experience analyzing workflows, reporting structures, and data integrations.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise systems, APIs, integrations, and cloud-based applications.
  • Experience in data-driven environments such as Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), analytics, or reporting platforms.
  • Strong working knowledge of SQL with the ability to query, validate, and analyze data.
  • Experience working in Snowflake or similar cloud-based data warehouse platforms.
  • Proficiency in Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, or similar tools.
  • Experience performing functional testing and supporting QA processes.
  • Demonstrated desire to grow into a Senior Business Systems Analyst or Product Owner role.
