Business Development Manager

The opportunity

We are seeking a driven and well-connected Business Development Manager to join our Digital team, based in the United States. This is a hunter role focused on originating and closing new enterprise-level merchant relationships, with a particular emphasis on merchants operating significant subscription and recurring billing models.

You will be the tip of the spear for Worldline's growth in the US market - identifying, engaging, and winning new logos by leveraging your deep payments expertise, consultative selling approach, and established network of senior merchant contacts.

This role reports to the Commercial Director and works cross-functionally with product, solutions engineering, integration, risk, and commercial teams to deliver compelling, tailored propositions to prospective clients.

Day-to-day responsibilities

New Business Acquisition
  • Own the full sales cycle from prospecting through to signed agreement for new enterprise merchant logos
  • Build and maintain a robust, qualified pipeline with accurate forecasting and disciplined CRM management
  • Develop and execute a strategic territory plan identifying high-value target merchants and clear paths to engagement

Subscription & Recurring Commerce Focus
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on the unique payments needs of subscription and recurring billing merchants
  • Articulate Worldline's value proposition around authorization optimization, retry strategies, network tokenization, account updater services, and churn reduction
  • Identify and pursue opportunities in key subscription-heavy verticals including SaaS, streaming/media, digital content, health & wellness, insurance, and membership-based services

Consultative Enterprise Sales
  • Engage C-suite executives, heads of payments, and key decision-makers through a consultative, value-driven sales approach
  • Develop tailored commercial proposals and business cases that address each merchant's specific pain points, processing requirements, and growth objectives
  • Navigate complex, multi-stakeholder sales cycles with professionalism, persistence, and strategic intent

Market Intelligence & Collaboration
  • Stay current on competitive landscape, industry trends, scheme rule changes, and emerging technologies relevant to digital acquiring and recurring commerce
  • Provide market feedback to product and strategy teams to inform roadmap priorities and competitive positioning
  • Collaborate with solutions engineering, integration, and onboarding teams to ensure a seamless transition from signed deal to live merchant

Relationship & Brand Building
  • Represent Worldline at industry events, conferences, and networking forums (e.g., Money20/20, MRC, Transact)
  • Build and nurture long-term relationships that position Worldline as a trusted strategic partner, not just a vendor

Who are we looking for

We look for big thinkers. People who can drive positive change, step up and show what's next - people with passion, can-do attitude and a hunger to learn and grow. In practice this means:
  • 5+ years of business development or enterprise sales experience in the payments, fintech, or digital commerce industry
  • Proven track record of originating and closing complex, high-value enterprise deals
  • Established network of C-suite and senior decision-maker contacts across major US and/or global merchants
  • Strong understanding of the acquiring value chain - gateway, processing, acquiring, settlement - and how each element impacts merchant outcomes
  • Deep knowledge of subscription/recurring billing payments including Card-on-File transactions, MIT/CIT classification, network tokenization, and recurring scheme mandates
  • Experience developing and presenting commercial proposals including IC++, blended, and tiered pricing models, volume commitments, and SLA frameworks
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
  • Self-starter mentality with the ability to operate independently in a remote/distributed environment
  • Willingness to travel domestically and occasionally internationally as needed (estimated 20-30%)

Preferred
  • Experience selling into one or more subscription-heavy verticals (SaaS, streaming, digital media, insurance, membership services)
  • Familiarity with cross-border acquiring and multi-currency payment flows
  • Prior experience at an acquirer, PSP, or payment processor (e.g., Adyen, Stripe, Worldpay, Checkout.com, Nuvei, Fiserv, Global Payments, or similar)
  • Understanding of alternative payment methods, 3DS2/SCA, and fraud/risk management in a digital commerce context
  • Experience with CRM platforms (Salesforce preferred)

Perks & Benefits

  • Salary range: $114,000 - $120,000 + 50% bonus
  • Benefits package - comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage; 401(k) with company match; generous PTO
  • Opportunity to play a foundational role in scaling Worldline's Digital business in the US market
  • Access to a global payments platform with broad geographic reach, deep technical capabilities, and a strong product roadmap
  • A collaborative, relationship-driven culture that values long-term partnerships - with merchants, with partners, and with each other
  • Professional development opportunities and exposure to a diverse, international organization
