Business Development Director , Early Drug Development Crop Protection and Chemicals

Labcorp is seeking a field sales Business Development Director (BDD), Early Drug Development to join our Crop Protection & Chemicals (CPC) sales team in the West Coast/Central U.S. territory. The ideal candidate would reside within the Central or Western U.S. territory.

Responsibilities:
  • Achieves annual sales plan and sales targets for assigned accounts and/or territory.
  • Establishes, nurtures, and grows client relationships at the appropriate levels. Leads client meetings, including proposal Bid Defense and capabilities presentations and hosts client visits/meetings.
  • Utilizes tools and available information to identify and prioritize clients in assigned accounts/territory.
  • Collaborate effectively with sales team members, SME's, operational partners, and executives from other Labcorp units to bring potential opportunities to their attention and to identify and win multi-unit projects.
  • Establishes, nurtures and grows client relationships at the appropriate levels.
  • Develops account plans and partnerships with key accounts
  • Sets and manages customer expectations.
  • Organizes and hosts client visits.
  • Responsible for Opportunity Management and accurate pipeline forecasting.
  • Provides regular (weekly) activity reports to management. Develops client call cycle to achieve objectives and sales plan; Follows up on leads.
  • Uses Salesforce to document customer information, visits, account plans, and decisions, as required for the business unit.
  • Provides pricing feedback and competitive intel on key competitors to internal team to maximize margins and achieve appropriate win rates.
  • Evaluates client RFIs, RFPs, proposals, and budgets, and provides input to ensure client and company requirements are met.
  • Responsible for Opportunity Management and accurate pipeline forecasting.
  • 40-50% of travel may be expected to attend conferences; customer visits and Labcorp laboratory sites.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5 years sales experience selling scientific products/services directly to Crop Protection and Chemical or pharmaceutical and biotech segments with direct interaction with mid-level and executive level decision makers.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree
  • 4 or more years of experience in a true "hunter" business development or sales role, with direct responsibility for prospecting, developing new business opportunities, acquiring new customers, and driving opportunities through the sales cycle.
  • 1 or more years experience utilizing CRM platforms, including Salesforce or similar systems, to manage customer relationships, opportunities, pipeline activity, and sales forecasting.
  • 1 or more years experience leveraging AI-driven sales tools and technologies to support prospecting, lead identification and prioritization, customer engagement, and sales effectiveness.


Additional Job standards:
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong client engagement, retention, and customer advocacy skills.
  • Ability to leverage market and industry knowledge to identify and capitalize on sales growth opportunities.
  • Working knowledge of the crop protection and chemical industry.
  • Ability to effectively manage challenging client and/or financial situations.
  • Ability to articulate and differentiate Labcorp's value proposition from competitors.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships with internal management and site leadership.


About the role:

This field-based role will focus on selling Crop Protection and Chemical's Environmental, & Human Safety, services within the existing and emerging market segments.

As a CPC BDD you will be critical in driving the customer experience and satisfaction with Labcorp environmental safety and toxicology services. The successful candidate should bring strong, positive, energy with a "hunter-like" mentality to the team which will impact U.S. CPC business growth in Crop, Chemical and Food Improvement Market Segments. The BDD will be expected to develop relationships with their BDD colleagues along with operations, finance, marketing, regulatory, commercial support, scientific affairs, Inside Sales and a variety of SMEs. The BDD will connect with representatives from all of these departments very regularly as they look to support client requests or simply plan their sales strategies and activities. BDDs are communicative and time sensitive to both internal and external messaging. This role requires a high degree of availability and connectivity as they are engaged with many contacts throughout the day. Expect meetings with management weekly, internal departmental and client interactions daily.

All job offers will be based on a candidate's skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data.

The position is also eligible for bonus and/or commissions under the applicable variable compensation plan. Bonus/commissions are earned based on achievement of performance metrics under the plan.

Employees regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week are eligible for comprehensive benefits including: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, STD/LTD, 401(k), Paid Time Off (PTO) or Flexible Time Off (FTO), Tuition Reimbursement and Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Employees regularly scheduled to work less than 20 hours, Casual, Intern, and Temporary employees are only eligible to participate in the 401(k) Plan.
