What you'll be doingAs a Business Analyst on the Capital Markets Risk Management (CMRM) team, you'll assist the Director, Market Risk Solutions by providing subject matter expertise in developing robust and sustainable solutions for market risk capture within our market risk systems. You'll build and maintain strong working relationships across a matrix organization, collaborating closely with both CMRM groups (Trade Floor Risk Managers, Data, Governance, Reporting, Quantitative Solutions) and non-CMRM stakeholders (Risk Technology, Front Office and Front Office Technology, Model Vetting, Finance, Audit). Your expertise will help ensure our market risk processes are methodologically sound and operationally efficient, supporting the ongoing evolution of risk measurement at CIBC. You'll play a key role in driving projects forward, engaging stakeholders, and contributing to the strategic direction of market risk initiatives.
Within CMRM, the Risk Measurement, Systems & Reporting (RMSR) group is accountable for developing and maintaining a disciplined approach to the governance, monitoring, and control of the bank's counterparty credit, market, liquidity, funding, insurance, and pension risk-taking activities, and the associated risk systems.
Within RMSR, the Market Risk Solutions group is responsible for developing and maintaining systems and processes for robust market risk and credit valuation adjustment (CVA) regulatory capital calculations, and internal market risk measurement, reporting, and monitoring; supporting new business initiatives within CIBC Capital Markets; meeting requirements for business information, including market risk reporting and limit monitoring; and delivering on regulatory initiatives in the market risk space.

How you'll succeed- Domain knowledge - You have a degree in a quantitative field. A relevant professional designation, such as Financial Risk Manager (FRM), is an asset. You have a solid understanding of Capital Markets products and their pricing principles, market risk metrics, models (sensitivities, value at risk (VaR), stress testing, backtesting), regulations, and regulatory capital calculations, including Fundamental Review of the Trading Book (FRTB) and Basel III CVA. You're curious and committed to growing your knowledge as market risk measurement continues to evolve.
- Business analysis - For assigned market risk initiatives, you'll identify and engage relevant stakeholders and perform thorough analysis while applying your existing knowledge and developing new market risk expertise. You'll document the current state, define required changes, propose solutions, build consensus, contribute to business process design, plan and execute testing, and present results to stakeholders.
- Project delivery - You'll manage a portfolio of market risk projects and change requests, addressing technical and business obstacles as they arise. You'll collaborate with stakeholders within and outside of CMRM to support timely testing, sign-off, and delivery within applicable project delivery frameworks, including Agile and Waterfall.
Who you are- You have relevant experience. You bring 1-3 years of experience in business analysis, a quantitative field, or a related role.
- You're a certified professional. You have current accreditation and good standing in Financial Risk Manager (FRM). It's an asset if you hold this designation.
- You give meaning to data. You enjoy investigating complex problems and making sense of information. You communicate detailed information in a meaningful way.
- You know that details matter. You notice things that others don't. Your critical thinking skills help to inform your decision making.
- You're digitally savvy. You have experience working with relational databases and manipulating large datasets using tools such as SQL, Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), Python, PowerShell, or R. You adapt easily to new technologies, including artificial intelligence and machine learning.
