Position Summary

SouthStar Energy Services (SSE) is seeking a Business Analyst II, III, or Sr (Contracts & Compliance) to support the Counterparties, Contracts & Compliance function within Retail Risk Management. This position is responsible for administering commodity contracts, supporting counterparty and compliance processes, maintaining contractual records, and ensuring adherence to internal policies and regulatory requirements. The analyst serves as a key liaison between Trading, Legal, Accounting, Operations, and Risk Control to help ensure the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of commercial transactions. Responsibilities align with SSE's contract oversight and compliance framework supporting natural gas trading and retail operations with the existing markets, FL, GA, IL, MI, OH and PA.

The position can be hired as an Analyst II (Grade Level 3), Analyst III (Grade Level 4), and Analyst Sr (Grade Level 5). Individuals who demonstrate advanced skills in terms of work experience, education and certifications may be eligible for the more advanced position.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Contracts Administration
    • Maintain and administer contracts and related transaction documentation.
    • Review executed agreements for completeness, accuracy, and required approvals.
    • Track contract amendments, renewals, expirations, and key commercial provisions.
    • Maintain organized electronic contract repositories and supporting documentation.
  • Compliance & Governance
    • Monitor compliance with internal risk management policies and established controls.
    • Support regulatory and audit requests by gathering documentation and preparing supporting analyses.
    • Assist with the administration of counterparty onboarding and ongoing due diligence processes.
    • Help identify and escalate potential compliance concerns, control exceptions, or documentation deficiencies.
  • Counterparty Support
    • Support the maintenance of counterparty records, guarantees, and collateral agreements.
    • Monitor contractual obligations and assist with compliance reporting requirements.
    • Coordinate with Credit, Trading, and Legal teams to resolve discrepancies and documentation issues.
  • Reporting & Analysis
    • Prepare recurring compliance and management reports.
    • Analyze contract data and summarize key commercial terms for business partners.
    • Assist with special projects focused on process improvement, control enhancement, and risk mitigation.
    • Support development of dashboards and reporting tools using Excel, Power BI, or similar platforms.


Business Analyst I (Grade 3)

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Supply Chain, or a related discipline.

Required Experience
  • 0-3 years of professional experience in contract administration, finance, accounting, procurement, supply chain, business operations, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
  • Exposure to Power BI, OnBase, SharePoint, or database reporting tools.
  • Basic knowledge of contract administration processes.
  • Knowledge of energy markets or utility operations.


Business Analyst II (Grade 4)

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Supply Chain, or a related discipline.

Required Experience
  • 4-7 years of experience in contract administration, commercial operations, contract compliance, procurement, finance, or a related business function.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience administering and supporting complex contracts.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify contract risks and operational issues.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and business reporting tools.
  • Experience with Power BI, OnBase, SharePoint, or database reporting applications.
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Experience collaborating across business units and stakeholder groups.
  • Working knowledge of energy markets and trading operations.


Business Analyst Sr (Grade 5)

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Supply Chain, or a related discipline.

Required Experience
  • 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in contract administration, commercial operations, contract compliance, energy trading support, or a related analytical field.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of contract administration, contract interpretation, and risk assessment.
  • Extensive experience supporting regulatory compliance and audit activities.
  • Advanced analytical, reporting, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Excel, Power BI, OnBase, SharePoint, and database reporting tools.
  • Experience with ETRM platforms such as Endur/Openlink or similar systems.
  • Strong knowledge of energy markets, trading operations, and industry regulations.
  • Experience leading process improvement initiatives and complex contract-related projects.
  • Ability to serve as a subject matter expert and mentor less experienced analysts.
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders and drive cross-functional solutions.


Location and Work Environment:

This position is based at SouthStar's corporate office in Atlanta, Georgia, with a hybrid work schedule of four days in-office and one day remote per week (subject to change per business needs). The work environment is dynamic, fast-paced, and challenging with competing demands.
