A Brief OverviewThis role engineering principles and experience to solve complicated technical issues related to the novel development and use of biomedical instrumentation and provides support to all technical personnel in a translational research laboratory.
This role is also integral in bench to bedside research, gaining hands on large animal research experience to advance lab research by developing novel medical devices for clinical application. Works with others in the department to evaluate new technologies that are being considered for purchase. Provides technical support related to special projects. Demonstrates knowledge of biotechnology while working in an active research setting.
He/she interacts closely with clinical/research personnel and maintains existing equipment and applications, and develops new test modalities using custom programming and off-the-shelf components. He/she must have a strong background in programming, and electrical, mechanical, and physiologic principles and be able to utilize various data acquisition and analytic software applications as required by project. He/she must have skill at reading/writing/reviewing scientific and technical literature and becoming knowledgeable in related fields as required. He/she is able to actively participate as an engineering/technical resource and consultant for research scientists within the lab. He/she demonstrates the ability to work with outside technology vendors to provide the optimal use of their products for the CHOP enterprise. He/she participates in the publishing of scientific papers.
What you will do- Gains intimate knowledge of translational lab research initiatives to develop new biomedical devices for the purpose of commercialization.
- Resolves clinical and technical problems related to the safe and effective use of equipment by working with research staff, along with vendors to gain the information needed to develop and beneficial solution.
- Assists with the testing requirements for the evaluation and validation of new medical device technologies and help with the preparation of validation documentation for commercialization
- Provides technical leadership related to special projects as assigned by the senior lab staff.
- Evaluates labs equipment needs and available technologies to make recommendations to lab staff.
- Provides competent service in clinical and research setting.
Education Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree Engineering - Required
- Bachelor's Degree Electrical, Mechanical or Biomedical or similar field of study - Preferred
Experience Qualifications- At least one (1) year related engineering experience - Required
- At least three (3) years related engineering experience - Preferred
- At least three (3) years in a medical, research and academic environment - Preferred
- with basic electronics, digital data acquisition and data analysis - Preferred
Skills and Abilities- Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel required (Required proficiency)
- Experience with Matlab and Python (Preferred proficiency)
- Experience in the development of test experimental test fixtures and instrumentation (Required proficiency)
- Motivated individual who demonstrates clear ability to problem solve and advance their work independently (Required proficiency)
- Ability to write high-quality technical publications and present their work in engineering scientific forums. (Preferred proficiency)
- Strong organization skills (Required proficiency)
SALARY RANGE:$76,100.00 - $97,000.00 Annually
