Here's how a Design Manager contributes to our team:

Responsibilities
• Lead and manage the development of design proposals for Design Build and other types of project pursuits, from early concept through submission and execution.
• Manage multidisciplinary design teams ensuring coordination, compliance, and constructability.
• Analyze project requirements and guide design teams to meet contractual, technical, schedule, compliance and budgetary constraints, while developing a clear design strategy.
• Lead the Design team on behalf of the Construction team to support achievement of overall project schedule, budget, and execution objectives.
• Serve as the primary point of contact with the client for all design related matters during pursuits and active projects.
• Lead the review, assessment, and interpretation of RFP documentation, Statements of Requirements, and Project Agreements.
• Develop and coordinate technical submissions, including design and construction narratives, drawings, schedules, logistics plans, and presentations.
• Lead collaborative meetings and stakeholder engagement sessions during the RFP, pursuit and execution phases, in conjunction with design partners.
• Ensure proposed design solutions support accurate pricing, risk management, and competitiveness.
• Coordinate the development of design documentation to support estimating, procurement, and construction, ensuring design assumptions are clearly defined and controlled. Ensure constructability of concepts.
• Work closely with estimating and procurement teams to ensure design scope, assumptions, and contingencies remain aligned with project budgets.
• Develop and manage the design schedule, ensuring integration with project logistics, construction sequencing, and procurement plans.
• Lead discussions related to design change management, identifying impacts and ensuring proactive resolution.
• Manage consultant contracts and scopes of work based on project requirements and proposed design solutions.
• Maintain strong, collaborative relationships with client, partner consultants, trade contractors, and internal teams.
• Actively foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and performance across the design organization.
• Manage the development and submission of Development Permits, Building Permits, and related approvals with local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
• Coordinate additional technical approvals where required (e.g., Transport Canada, NAV CANADA, Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission), depending on project scope.

Qualifications
• A construction related degree (Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent).
• Have more than 12 years of construction experience with 5 to 7 years of Design Management experience, ideally on large, complex Design Build projects.
• A strong working knowledge of construction scopes and activities, scheduling, project management practices, and contract administration tools.
• Experience in estimating and/or project management, considered a strong asset.
• Proven ability to mentor, lead, and delegate within large multidisciplinary teams while building and maintaining strong client relationships.
• Bilingual proficiency in French and English, with the ability to lead discussions, review documentation, and interface with clients and authorities in both languages.
