Full Job Description
Job Summary

This is a ground-floor opportunity to help design, build, and maintain the pipelines, lakehouses, and semantic models that power reporting and analytics across the entire organization. Rather than maintaining existing systems, this role helps shape an ecosystem that is being built now, making decisions that will influence how data is used at Ancora for years to come. The BI Infrastructure Engineer also helps reporting staff transition to the new platform, translating complex technical concepts into clear, approachable guidance for non-technical users. The data infrastructure built in this role directly supports Ancora's mission. The BI Infrastructure Engineer must uphold the Ancora core values at all times.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and build data pipelines using Azure Data Factory to ingest data from the student information system into a Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse.
  • Develop and maintain Bronze and Gold layer Delta tables following Medallion Architecture principles.
  • Build and optimize Power BI semantic models, including relationships, DAX measures, and row-level security across multiple business domains.
  • Create denormalized SQL views on SQL Server to pre-stage data for Lakehouse ingestion.
  • Maintain and improve incremental load patterns using watermark-based pipeline strategies.
  • Collaborate with the Data Architect to design Gold layer table structures that support clean, maintainable reporting.
  • Assist in retraining reporting staff on Power BI and the new Fabric environment alongside the Data Architect.
  • Contribute to data governance standards, including naming conventions, documentation, and model design guidelines.
  • Support the future development of conversational AI agents built on top of the Fabric data layer.
  • Monitor pipeline health, troubleshoot failures, and maintain data quality across the Lakehouse.

Experience and Education Required
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, including Lakehouses, Delta Lake, and OneLake.
  • Proficiency in SQL - complex joins, CTEs, window functions, and query optimization.
  • Experience building and maintaining Azure Data Factory pipelines.
  • Familiarity with Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers).
  • Power BI experience, including semantic model design and DAX measure development.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Comfort working independently in a small team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to data quality and validation.

Experience and Education Preferred
  • Experience with Python or PySpark for data transformation.
  • Microsoft certifications such as PL-300, DP-700, or AZ-900.
  • Experience with SQL Server, including stored procedures, views, and replication.
  • Familiarity with Direct Lake mode in Power BI semantic models.
  • Experience with incremental load patterns and watermark-based pipeline strategies.
  • Prior work in education, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations.
