Position Summary

The Backend Operations Supervisor is responsible for leading daily operations across Metrology, Surface Preparation, and Clean Room manufacturing functions within the Precision Machining & Assembly Division.

The supervisor provides leadership, direction, and accountability for production teams responsible for final inspection, component preparation, cleaning, assembly, packaging, and shipment of semiconductor equipment components. This role ensures operational excellence through safety leadership, quality compliance, employee development, continuous improvement, and customer-focused execution.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on manufacturing leader with experience in precision machining, semiconductor manufacturing, cleanroom operations, quality inspection, and lean manufacturing methodologies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Operational Leadership
  • Lead and supervise daily activities across Metrology, Surface Prep, and Clean Room operations.
  • Ensure production schedules, quality requirements, and customer delivery commitments are consistently achieved.
  • Monitor workflow, staffing levels, equipment utilization, and production output to maximize efficiency.
  • Coordinate priorities between machining, quality, engineering, planning, and operations teams.
  • Participate in production planning and capacity management activities.

Metrology & Quality Oversight
  • Ensure compliance with customer specifications, drawing requirements, GD&T standards, and quality procedures.
  • Oversee final inspection activities utilizing precision measurement equipment including CMMs, optical measurement systems, micrometers, calipers, and related metrology tools.
  • Support root cause investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Review and monitor key quality metrics including yield, scrap, rework, and customer returns.
  • Maintain calibration and measurement system compliance.

Surface Preparation Leadership
  • Direct activities related to deburring, detailing, cleaning, washing, and pre-processing of machined components.
  • Ensure proper execution of work instructions, visual standards, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Promote consistency in workmanship and component handling practices.
  • Monitor process effectiveness and identify opportunities for process improvement and waste reduction.

Clean Room Operations
  • Ensure strict adherence to contamination control procedures and cleanroom protocols.
  • Monitor compliance with gowning, handling, packaging, and cleanliness standards.
  • Support internal and customer audits related to cleanroom manufacturing practices.

Team Leadership & Development
  • Recruit, train, coach, and develop team members and leads.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and identify development opportunities.
  • Maintain staffing plans and succession planning initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Facilitate daily shift meetings and communication of safety, quality, and production priorities.

Safety & Compliance
  • Champion a safety-first culture throughout all operations.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental, and company safety requirements.
  • Investigate safety incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain compliance with Quality Management System (QMS) requirements, work instructions, and customer standards.

Continuous Improvement
  • Lead Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Utilize data and metrics to identify bottlenecks and drive improvements.
  • Support implementation of new equipment, tooling, technologies, and process enhancements.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Quality teams on process validation and optimization activities.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate's degree in Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, Quality, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of manufacturing experience in precision machining, semiconductor manufacturing, cleanroom operations, quality inspection, or related technical environment.
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • Experience reading engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T requirements.
  • Experience working within ISO, Quality Management Systems, and controlled manufacturing environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of manufacturing ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office applications.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Semiconductor industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience leading teams in metrology, quality inspection, final clean, or cleanroom operations.
  • Experience with Zeiss CMM, Faro Arm, Calypso, Hexagon, or similar measurement systems. [Metrology Inspector | Word]
  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement training.
  • Experience with precision machined components and semiconductor OEM customer requirements.
  • Knowledge of contamination control and cleanroom manufacturing standards.

  • Must meet all PPE and gowning requirements.
