POSITION SUMMARY

The Manufacturing Engineer provides hands-on engineering support for production with a strong emphasis on mechanical systems, equipment design, and process optimization. This role serves as a technical interface within the engineering organization, working closely with manufacturing, R&D, and operations to ensure mechanically robust product designs and manufacturing processes. The position partners with R&D to translate designs into scalable production methods, with a focus on mechanical integrity, equipment performance, and manufacturability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop, design, test, and manufacture mechanical systems, tooling, and production equipment with a focus on increasing throughput and reducing cost.
  • Proactively manage program risk through risk identification and mitigation processes.
  • Provide hands-on support for equipment troubleshooting, mechanical repairs, preventative maintenance, and system improvements, particularly for coating machinery.
  • Drive Lean process improvement initiatives and assist with training other engineering personnel. i.e. technicians, operators.
  • Support business unit goals and objectives, quality initiatives, continuous improvement initiatives, and company policies and procedures. Maintain a safe work environment for self and other co-workers. Follow all safety rules and procedures as instructed by the company's safety program and initiatives.
  • Manage multiple projects in parallel, with varying scope and timeline.
  • Convey ideas and troubleshoot problems.
  • Work collaboratively with supervisor and other engineering personnel in order to meet customer specifications, expectations, and on time delivery.
  • Additional duties as needed.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (preferred) or related engineering discipline, with 3+ years of relevant manufacturing experience.
  • Above average knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
  • Strong work ethic displaying consistent dependability, reliability, and initiative. Proficiency with 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks or similar) for mechanical design and tooling development.
  • Strong foundation of interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written as well as listening. Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Creative and flexible, yet a disciplined approach to process and engineering design.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a high degree of initiative and flexibility.
  • Excellent computer skills - Microsoft Office Suite (Word; Excel).

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical systems, precision equipment, and manufacturing machinery, ideally in thin film deposition or optical environments.
  • Familiarity with CNC and manual machining operations.
  • Manufacturing process development. Proven experience transferring new processes from development to manufacturing.
  • Experience supporting optical-mechanical assemblies in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven track record with Design for Manufacturability or Design of Experiment (DOE).
  • Excellent fundamentals of engineering concepts (tolerance analysis), statistical process control, gauge R&R sampling, and problem-solving techniques.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Work within a manufacturing environment.
  • Must be able to lift 35 lbs.
  • Clarity of vision to see near and mid-range.
  • While performing duties of this job, this role will regularly be required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms.
  • Temperature is moderate within work environment.
  • The noise level in the manufacturing environment is moderate, but occasionally can be loud.

These considerations can cause offered compensation to vary. The hiring range for this position is typically $89,964 - $134,946 annually. Actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.
