Overview

The role supports the Financial Risk function within MUFG Canada Risk Management, with a focus on the production, analysis, governance and continuous enhancement of liquidity risk, market risk, credit risk and interest rate risk in the banking book reporting. Reporting to the Financial Risk Vice President, the incumbent is responsible for preparing and maintaining recurring risk reports, supporting ECL and portfolio credit risk analysis, monitoring risk appetite and limit metrics, maintaining EUC and procedure documentation, and assisting with committee materials for IRC, ECC, Liquidity Risk and Market Risk governance forums. The role requires excellent technical capability, including advanced data analysis, Excel/Power Query/VBA automation, source-data reconciliation, AI literacy and the ability to responsibly leverage AI-enabled tools to improve reporting efficiency, data quality, trend analysis, control effectiveness and management insight. The incumbent must demonstrate strong knowledge of the underlying risk metrics, data sources such as OVS extracts, Bloomberg and internal reporting files, and the ability to translate complex technical outputs into clear, audit-ready commentary and management materials.

Key Accountabilities

Risk reporting, analytics and governance support - responsibilities include:
  • Prepare, analyze and maintain recurring Financial Risk reports across liquidity risk, market risk, credit risk and IRRBB, including Liquidity Early Warning Indicators, Liquidity Limit Dashboard, Liquidity Stress Testing, daily and monthly liquidity monitoring, VaR, stress testing, DV01, sensitivity measures, portfolio concentration, IFRS 9 ECL, Watchlist inputs, Risk Appetite metrics and interest rate risk analytics.
  • Compile and validate source data from OVS extracts, Bloomberg, internal risk files, Treasury reports, Middle Office data, Finance inputs, facility and commitment data, exposure reports and locally maintained EUC tools to support recurring production and independent review of risk metrics.
  • Support the preparation of IRC, ECC, Liquidity Risk, Market Risk and other governance materials by compiling metrics, drafting commentary, preparing exhibits, explaining drivers, documenting assumptions and ensuring materials are accurate, complete and delivered within required timelines.
  • Perform review and challenge of report outputs, investigate material movements or exceptions, document rationale, reconcile data back to source systems, and escalate breaches, data issues or control concerns in accordance with applicable procedures.


Support for stakeholders - responsibilities include:
  • Coordinate with Treasury, Middle Office, Finance, Operations, Compliance, business lines, regional risk teams and Head Office to obtain data, validate assumptions, clarify methodology, and support timely completion of Financial Risk deliverables.
  • Provide support, oversight and guidance to first line and independent risk monitoring functions on risk reporting, risk appetite monitoring, limit usage, breach escalation and remediation tracking.
  • Support audit, regulatory and internal review requests by maintaining clear evidence, audit trails, version logs, approvals and supporting documentation for recurring reporting processes.
  • Monitor relevant regulatory, Head Office and regional risk requirements and assist in translating them into local policies, procedures, controls, testing approaches and reporting processes.
  • Support the review and enhancement of local risk policies, procedures, EUC documentation and user manuals, including documentation for EWI, liquidity limits, LST, market risk reporting, RFR-linked submissions and ECL processes.
  • Assist with annual recalibration and methodology review processes for liquidity risk metrics, EWI thresholds, LST assumptions, local limits and other Financial Risk measures, including coordination with ALRMO, Head Office and first line stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to automate, streamline and strengthen recurring reports, tracking logs, confirmations and control processes while maintaining appropriate governance, documentation and change management.


Technical Skills
  • Excellent technical skills, including advanced Microsoft Excel capability with complex formulas, Power Query, pivot tables, data validation, reconciliations, financial modelling, VBA/macros and automation techniques used to streamline recurring risk reporting processes.
  • Strong knowledge of liquidity risk metrics and reporting, including Early Warning Indicators, Liquidity Stress Testing, liquidity limits, limit utilization, funds position, cash-flow analysis, contingency funding plan inputs, liquidity risk appetite measures, threshold recalibration and breach/escalation monitoring.
  • Strong knowledge of market risk metrics and analytics, including VaR, stress testing, DV01, sensitivity analysis, limit monitoring, market data validation, rate and spread movements, exposure drivers and recurring market risk reporting packages.
  • Strong knowledge of credit risk and ECL analytics, including IFRS 9 ECL, exposure and commitment utilization, portfolio concentration, industry and obligor analysis, facility data, credit exposure trends and credit risk appetite reporting.
  • Working knowledge of IRRBB concepts and tools, including interest rate sensitivity, earnings and economic value perspectives, repricing profile analysis, scenario-based impacts, assumptions review and coordination with regional or Head Office stakeholders on IRRBB methodology and tool development.
  • Ability to source, extract, reconcile and analyze data from multiple internal and external risk systems, Treasury and Middle Office files, Finance inputs, facility and commitment reports, shared-drive repositories, SharePoint sites and locally maintained EUC tools.
  • Advanced data analytics capability, including the ability to work with large and complex data sets, identify data quality issues, perform variance and trend analysis, reconcile outputs across systems, design repeatable controls, and convert raw data into meaningful risk insights and executive-level commentary.
  • Practical knowledge of AI-enabled productivity and analytics tools, with the ability to responsibly leverage AI to support data validation, report drafting, process documentation, variance investigation, coding assistance, workflow automation, knowledge management and management reporting, while maintaining appropriate human review, confidentiality and control standards.
  • Ability to identify and implement opportunities for automation, AI-assisted analysis and process improvement in recurring reports, EUC tools, tracking logs, confirmations, procedure manuals, management materials and control evidence repositories.
  • Experience preparing high-quality committee, management and audit materials, including metric dashboards, variance explanations, trend summaries, breach or exception commentary, methodology notes, procedure documentation and evidence packages.
  • Sound understanding of financial risk concepts, governance expectations and control requirements, including liquidity risk, market risk, credit risk, IFRS 9 ECL, IRRBB, risk appetite metrics, stress testing, concentration risk, EUC governance and risk measurement methodologies.


Experience & Abilities
  • Minimum of 3 years of banking, risk management, treasury, finance, audit, data analytics or related financial services experience; experience in a second line risk management function is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare, analyze and explain recurring risk reports and supporting materials across liquidity risk, market risk, credit risk and IRRBB, including EWI, LST, liquidity limits, VaR, stress testing, DV01, sensitivity measures, ECL, commitment utilization, concentration, risk appetite and governance reporting.
  • Strong technical aptitude and curiosity, with a proven ability to learn new systems, adopt emerging technologies, use AI-enabled tools responsibly, and translate technical outputs into practical risk management conclusions.
  • Strong analytical, investigative and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify data issues, explain key drivers, assess materiality, reconcile outputs to source data, validate AI-assisted outputs and recommend practical control or reporting improvements.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft concise commentary, document rationale, present results, and coordinate deliverables with stakeholders at different levels.
  • Ability to manage multiple recurring deadlines, maintain strong attention to detail, preserve accurate audit trails, and ensure technology-enabled improvements remain transparent, controlled and well documented.


Education & Training
  • University degree in finance, economics, mathematics, accounting, business, risk management, data analytics, computer science, information systems or a related discipline.
  • Post-graduate education, professional designation or progress toward a designation such as FRM, CFA, CPA, MBA, data analytics certification, AI-related training or equivalent risk/finance certification is considered beneficial.
  • Additional training in liquidity risk, market risk, credit risk, IFRS 9, regulatory reporting, data analytics, automation, responsible AI use, prompt engineering, model/EUC governance or technology risk controls is considered an asset.
