Avionics Manufacturing Engineer (PCB and PCBA)

Description
As an Avionics Manufacturing Engineer at Impulse (PCB and PCBA), you will provide deep technical expertise on PCB and PCBA technology for spaceflight. Your expertise will directly impact the reliability and performance of vehicles we send into orbit and beyond.
Leveling will be commensurate with experience. (Open to all levels).
Responsibilities
• Develop, qualify and optimize manufacturing processes for PCBAs.
• Write work instructions for PCBA manufacturing, including solder rework, conformal coating, staking and underfill.
• Collaborate with design engineers to ensure manufacturability, drawing review and DFM/DFA of PCBs and PCBAs.
• Provide day-to-day support to PCBA technicians on the production floor.
• Troubleshoot production issues, identify root causes, and drive implementation of corrective actions for non-conformances.
• Optimize production rate, yield and cost of PCBA production.
• Write specifications for, and lead qualification of, both PCB and PCBA vendors for flight and non-flight applications.
• Ensure timely delivery of PCBAs to box-level assembly.
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in PCB and PCBA manufacturing to drive innovation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on quality and long-term reliability.
• Support environmental and functional testing in production (TVAC, thermal cycling).
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelors' degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related field
• 3+ years of demonstrated manufacturing experience with PCBs and PCBAs
• Deep understanding of manufacturing processes and materials used in PCBs and PCBA manufacturing.
• Experience with qualifying vendors for both PCB fabrication and PCBA assembly.
• Experience with SMT board assembly, including experience designing jigs and fixtures for SMT processes.
Preferred Skills and Experience
• MS/PhD in Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• Experience with PCB and PCBA manufacturing for space applications.
• Experience with PCB fabrication processes, such via drilling, plating, pre-preg/core lamination, solder mask, ENIG processes.
• Experience with setting up and running an SMT line
• Experience automated optical inspection (AIO), and X-ray/CT inspection of PCBAs

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity.
