Closures Engineer for an assigned project with a client in the automotive industry. The role is based in Novi, MI and requires onsite presence and 20% domestics travel. If you are eager to grow your career and make a meaningful impact on exciting projects, we look forward to your application.

PURPOSE:
The Closures Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end design, development, and release of vehicle closures systems and components. This role combines strong first-principles engineering with a continuous improvement mindset to deliver innovative, high-quality solutions. The engineer will work cross-functionally and with suppliers to ensure systems meet performance, cost, weight, and customer experience targets from concept through production.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead conceptual studies and develop innovative solutions for complex engineering challenges.
  • Apply Six Sigma methodologies to define and optimize design and manufacturing parameters.
  • Drive product development from initial concept sketches through prototyping, validation, and production release.
  • Perform kinematic and structural analysis to ensure optimal system performance and durability.
  • Own full component lifecycle: concept design, requirements definition, supplier engagement, BOM management, simulation, testing, and production support.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including body engineering, manufacturing, design, quality, and customer experience.
  • Support manufacturing by developing assembly processes and resolving production issues.
  • Manage cost and weight targets from early estimates through supplier sourcing and implementation.
  • Coordinate supplier activities, track issues, and drive timely resolution.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Mechanical or related field) required
  • Experience with Six Sigma methodologies

REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Strong understanding of closures systems, including loads, forces, and overall functionality.
  • Solid knowledge of first-principles physics and engineering trade-offs.
  • Experience with CAD tools (CATIA V5 or similar).
  • Strong analytical skills in structural performance, kinematics, and motion forces.
  • Ability to work independently and drive issues to resolution.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight timelines.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Experience with Volkswagen

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Work is normally performed in an office, laboratory, manufacturing floor, or machine shop setting where physical work includes, but is not limited to sitting, standing, reaching, kneeling, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to understand and comply with all relevant safety practices.

FLSA STATUS/WORKING SCHEDULE:
  • Location: Novi, MI work with suppliers in Auburn Hills, Michigan
  • Schedule: Full Time/ 40 hours per week
  • Travel: 20% travel in South Carolina
  • Overtime: as required
  • Assignment Start: June 2026 - December 2030
  • Duration: up to4.5 years
