Full Job Description
This position reports to:
Finance Manager

In this role, you will contribute as a key finance business partner to project teams and division leadership. You will analyze financial performance across multiple projects, identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities, and communicate actionable insights to Project Managers, the Local Division Controller, and other stakeholders. Through disciplined financial analysis and clear recommendations, you will support margin realization, cash-flow optimization, and overall project profitability. You will also support monthly closing activities and SOX compliance.

The work model for the role is: hybrid in Mechanicsville, VA.

This role is contributing to Motion Traction in Mechanicsville, Virginia. Main stakeholders include Project Managers, Local Division Controller, Local Division Manager, Sales Managers, customers, suppliers, and finance shared services partners.

Your role and responsibilities:
  • Executing comprehensive analyses of project financial performance versus budget and forecast; identifying variances and root causes; and proposing targeted improvement and mitigation actions to Division leadership.
  • Monitoring and forecasting project Estimate at Completion (EAC), Cost to Complete (CtC), revenue recognition, and cash flow across multiple projects; ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial forecasts.
  • Supporting the preparation and execution of monthly project reviews, including variance analysis, KPI tracking, risk & opportunity assessments, and cost-to-complete validation.
  • Supporting project financial accounting activities, including invoicing, revenue recognition, and month-end close, in compliance with ABB accounting policies and internal controls
  • Assisting in the management of project-level financial risks, including currency exposure, working capital, bonds, guarantees, and tax considerations, and supporting the local risk review process.
  • Supporting commercial claim management, change order documentation, and back-charge recovery; quantifying financial impacts and ensuring proper accounting treatment.
  • Developing and maintaining financial models and analytical tools to support project and commercial decision-making
  • Maintaining ABB financial systems (SAP SD/PS Modules); preparing standardized project reporting for management review.

Qualifications for the role:
  • Bachelor's degree (BS/MS) in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA is a plus.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in project accounting, operational finance, project finance, or public accounting.
  • Strong financial and variance analysis skills; advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and solid understanding of US GAAP and revenue recognition.
  • Working knowledge of project accounting, EAC/CtC forecasting, cash-flow management, and working-capital optimization.
  • Strong attention to detail, collaborative mindset, and ability to communicate effectively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • Innovative in process improvement, digitalization, and driving better business decisions through data.
  • Candidates must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with SAP, PS Module.
  • Power BI exposure is a plus.
  • Exposure to risk review processes and contract management.
