This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Mechanical Engineer for our San Diego, CA office. Be involved in projects with our Property & Buildings Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges.

As a Mechanical Engineer within our Building Systems group, you will support the planning, design, and delivery of mechanical building systems for a diverse portfolio of projects including healthcare, life sciences, commercial, higher education, workplace, and other complex facilities. This role provides opportunities to work collaboratively on multidisciplinary teams while developing innovative, sustainable, and high-performing building system solutions.

The ideal candidate will have experience or a strong interest in mechanical systems design for healthcare and life sciences facilities, including laboratories, research facilities, hospitals, medical office buildings, and other technically complex environments.

Your Impact
  • Perform professional mechanical engineering work associated with the design and construction of building systems projects.
  • Design HVAC, hydronic, air distribution, and temperature control systems for new and existing facilities.
  • Develop engineering calculations, studies, reports, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Utilize Revit, AutoCAD, and engineering analysis software to support project delivery.
  • Coordinate mechanical system designs with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, plumbing designers, and other project stakeholders.
  • Participate in site investigations, field assessments, and construction administration activities.
  • Assist with equipment selection, load calculations, energy analyses, and system evaluations.
  • Support the development of sustainable and energy-efficient building solutions.
  • Contribute to project planning, scheduling, and quality control processes.
  • Collaborate with clients and project teams to understand project goals and develop solutions that meet technical, operational, and budget requirements.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct while adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.


Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 1-3 years of relevant post-education experience in mechanical systems design for buildings.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain.
  • Experience designing HVAC and mechanical building systems.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, building systems design, applicable codes, and industry standards.
  • Experience with Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Proven commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP's health, safety, and conduct policies.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to project sites as required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain.
  • Experience with healthcare, life sciences, laboratory, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other technically complex facilities.
  • Familiarity with healthcare and laboratory design standards, including ASHRAE, NFPA, FGI, and related industry guidelines.
  • Experience designing central utility plants, clean rooms, specialty exhaust systems, or critical environment HVAC systems.
  • LEED Accreditation and/or experience with sustainable building design.
  • Experience supporting project pursuits, client presentations, and business development efforts.

Compensation:

Expected Salary: $79,300 - $109,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
