The Opportunity

Shape the future of Alberta's energy systems with WSP's Distribution team in Edmonton. As part of the Power Delivery subsector, our Distribution group leads the design of low to medium voltage overhead and underground lines and the facilities that support them. This role gives you hands-on exposure to real power delivery challenges and the chance to contribute to projects that keep communities connected and energized.

You'll take on meaningful work across the province, applying your technical skills to power distribution projects that directly influence how energy is delivered and maintained. You'll collaborate with a supportive team of engineers, designers, and stakeholders, gaining the coaching, mentorship, and training needed to grow your expertise and advance your career.

Your Impact
  • Support a wide range of customer requests for new power services, including upgrades to existing services and new service installations.
  • Coordinate closely with customers and project managers to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Apply engineering calculations to prepare design packages for overhead and underground power distribution systems.
  • Perform quality reviews of design deliverables to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards.
  • Support tasks such as equipment sizing, material specification, and preparation of construction documentation.
  • Design and analyze overhead and underground distribution systems using distribution design software.
  • Apply relevant codes and standards, including CSA, to overhead and underground distribution designs.
  • Conduct site visits as required and provide support during the construction phase of projects.
  • Identify opportunities to improve design efficiency, quality, and consistency across projects.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge-sharing activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Deliver high-quality work on time and within budget under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required to support business needs

What You'll Bring to WSP
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Eligibility for registration, or current registration, with APEGA.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Demonstrated interest in power distribution design, consulting engineering, the electric utility industry, or related fields.
  • Strong command of the English language, with the ability to communicate effectively with internal teams and external clients.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Legal authorization to work permanently in Canada without the need for sponsorship.

  • Previous engineering design or drafting experience, particularly in civil or electrical engineering.

  • Exposure to utility standards, CSA requirements, and an understanding of powerline construction techniques.
  • Ability to contribute within design teams, stay self-motivated, and take initiative in learning new responsibilities.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Capability to take direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to execute project tasks effectively.
  • Ability to build trust and strong working relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Experience collaborating on interdisciplinary project teams and managing project deliverables.
  • French language skills considered an asset.

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $73,400 - $97,200
MB & ON: $67,000 - $92,200
NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $66,300 - $88,000
