Full Job Description
Thornton Tomasetti, Inc., seeks Associate Engineers in San Francisco, California:

  • Assists in developing project technical approach for forensic investigations, such as defining appropriate analysis techniques, performing field investigations and testing, and executing technical work.
  • Writes, reviews, and revises technical and investigative reports to support forensic findings and prepare materials related to presentations.
  • Assumes day-to-day role in managing projects for production, quality, client satisfaction, and budgetary objectives.
  • Performs advanced structural analysis and calculations using computer models and analytical approaches.
  • Performs analysis and design of structural systems for all types of buildings and materials using various building codes.
  • Develops project plan and budget consistent with client needs, including staffing and resource needs. Coordinates preparation of proposals and /or contracts with the principal-in-charge.
  • Coordinates project delivery and external meetings with client and external team members.
  • Plans and conducts internal project meetings.
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to team members regarding TT standards, technique, and quality.
  • Sets direction and delegates tasks to others.
  • Triages and troubleshoots project issues (e.g., technical, budget, schedule, billing, etc.).
  • Monitors project staff and provides direction/quality control as required.
  • Ensures that project undergoes standard quality assurance activities including design reviews, documentation, and design checks.
  • Monitors project labor and billing against established budgets.
  • Monitors scope creep to determine if additional services are warranted.
  • Coordinates activities of project staff.
  • Monitors staffing/resource needs and reports to Office Leader and/or project leadership.
  • Collaborates with other Project Managers to ensure appropriate staffing.
  • Serves as Direct Appraiser for performance alignments.
  • Recruits and interviews job candidates.
  • Maintains and develops client relationships.
  • Meets with and develops current and potential clients.
  • Promotes TT's services and reputation in the local and/or national markets by participating in appropriate industry, professional and community organizations.
  • Proactively develops, maintains, and nurtures relationships with targeted clients and other project stakeholders of a similar career level beyond project work.


Requires a Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field plus 5 years of experience in a related occupation. Requires 5 years of experience with the following: Evaluating, selecting, applying, adapting/modifying, and explaining methodologies, techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform tasks of increasing complexity for structural engineering work; Developing, planning, and applying advanced concepts and approaches to assignments; Devising new solutions to problems encountered; Developing deliverables to convey intent to clients; and Building advanced knowledge and skills in area of practice and engagement with growth opportunities. Requires 2 years of experience with the following: Leading and developing small teams; Contributing to team and/or organizational objectives; Coordinating project activities and tasks with internal and external stakeholders with client-facing project management and strategic planning/execution; and Assisting with project management decisions and activities, such as proposal writing, work plans, scheduling, financial tracking, and client billing tasks. Requires 1 year of experience in Pursuing opportunities to expand relationships with project stakeholders of a similar career level beyond project work. 15% domestic travel required. Telecommuting and/or working from home may be permissible pursuant to company policies. When not telecommuting, must report to work site.

Compensation
The rate for this position generally is $187,720 - $187,720 annually. This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the California Pay Transparency Law. It is based on what a successful California applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in California or perform the position from California. Similar positions located outside of California will not necessarily receive the same compensation. Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted by California Equal Pay Transparency Law. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employee already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law. A potential new employee's pay history will not be used in compensation decisions.
