RBC's QTS team is responsible for developing, enhancing and maintaining applications service for RBC Backoffice operations.

As a Lead Full Stack Software Developer operating within an Agile product team, your primary role will be designing, coding and delivering highest-quality software solutions. You will also be expected to play a key role in building modern applications to support business growth.

We are looking for a highly motivated, top-notch software engineer who is a great team player constantly thinking about quality, maintainability, robustness, and simplicity in all generated code. To excel in this role providing technical direction, design expertise, and implementation of Java Spring Boot applications and Python are all must haves.

What will you do?
  • Direct a diverse squad of technical, product, and design professionals to deliver products aligned with Agile principles and RBC's Ways of Working.
  • Uphold high standards for code quality and advocate for a "shift-left" approach to quality assurance.
  • Establishing best coding practices to be shared across the journey
  • Advocate and establish plans for the latest upgrades in the journey's technology stack.
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor for your journey and your team
  • Work in an Agile team environment which is fast-paced, fun and collaborative.
  • Work directly with the Product Owners and Scrum Masters to ensure that deliverables meet the business' needs.
  • Understand, interpret business requirements into technical solutions.


What do you need to succeed?
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8 - 10 years of experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Core Java 17 or later, demonstrating fluency with modern language features including records, sealed classes, pattern matching, the Streams API, and the Java concurrency model.
  • Proficiency in the Spring Boot framework for building production-grade microservices, including REST APIs, dependency injection, configuration management, and integration with common Spring ecosystem components.
  • Solid experience using JPA and Hibernate for object-relational mapping and database persistence, including entity modeling, transaction management, and performance tuning of queries.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one enterprise messaging technology such as IBM MQ, Solace, or Apache Kafka, along with a clear understanding of messaging patterns, delivery guarantees, and reliability semantics.
  • Good working knowledge of Kubernetes for container orchestration and Docker for containerization, including familiarity with deployment manifests, service configuration, scaling strategies, and troubleshooting workloads in containerized environments.
  • Working knowledge of Python with experience using data manipulation libraries such as Pandas or Polars, and the ability to establish and work with database connections from Python applications.
  • Hands-on experience in modernizing legacy systems, including refactoring codebases and migrating to modern architectures or frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with Github, GitHub Actions, Jira, Confluence and Jenkins.
  • Excellent interpersonal and highly developed communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience with using Gen AI developer productivity boost tools.


Nice-to-haves:
  • Familiarity with compliance, audit issues affecting banking businesses in the capital markets preferred.
  • Excellent data manipulation and end user computing tool development skills (i.e. including competence in some subset of: SQL queries, MS Office macros & scripting and Microsoft Office products).
  • Analytical mindset, creativity and commercial focus to deliver optimal solutions for the business.
  • Good organizational skills and able to produce architecture and design concepts.
  • Must exhibit the ability to work well with senior technical leads, business analysts, peer developers and junior developers.
