About the Role (Job Summary)

The Assistant Director, Operations helps lead day-to-day distribution center operations in a high-volume, highly regulated pharmaceutical distribution environment. This role partners with the Director of Operations to drive safety, quality, service, productivity, compliance, labor, and cost performance across a multi-shift operation. The ideal candidate is an approachable, influential people leader who builds engaged teams, strengthens accountability, and uses operational data to improve performance, customer service, and continuous improvement outcomes.

Schedule: Days (must be flexible to also support nights and weekends as business needs)

Target Compensation: 112K-117K + Bonus (depending on individual experience)

What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
  • Support strategic and operational leadership for a multi-shift pharmaceutical distribution center, including safety, quality, service, productivity, labor planning, and cost performance.
  • Oversee daily warehouse and distribution workflows, ensuring effective resource allocation, service execution, inventory flow, and achievement of operational goals.
  • Lead, coach, and develop managers, supervisors, and frontline teams while fostering engagement, accountability, trust, and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor KPIs, operational metrics, labor trends, quality performance, and service results to identify gaps and implement data-driven solutions.
  • Drive operational excellence using Lean, Six Sigma, root cause analysis, and corrective action processes to improve efficiency, quality, compliance, and cost.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, quality standards, and applicable pharmaceutical distribution regulations, including DEA, FDA, OSHA, and related requirements.
  • Partner with Human Resources, Finance, Transportation, Engineering, IT, Regulatory Affairs, Supply Chain, Customer Operations, and Customer Service to resolve operational challenges and support key initiatives.
  • Support labor relations activities, including positive union partnerships, contract compliance, employee relations, issue resolution, and workforce planning.
  • Prepare and present operational updates, business reviews, performance results, and recommendations to senior leadership.
Basic Requirements
  • Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Typically requires 9+ years of professional experience.
  • Typically requires 1+ year of supervisory and/or management experience.
  • Experience leading teams in distribution, warehouse operations, logistics, fulfillment, supply chain, or a similar operational environment.
  • Experience using operational metrics or KPIs to manage performance, productivity, service, quality, or labor outcomes.
Preferred Skills/Experience
  • Leadership experience in a pharmaceutical, healthcare, medical supply, regulated distribution, or high-volume warehouse environment.
  • Experience with DEA, FDA, OSHA, quality management, or other regulated operations requirements.
  • Experience supporting multi-shift, 24-hour, union, or large-scale distribution center operations.
  • Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, root cause analysis, corrective action, or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with warehouse management systems, labor management systems, ERP platforms, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and operational reporting tools.
  • Strong communication, influencing, coaching, problem-solving, and cross-functional partnership skills.
  • Experience with various forms of AI
Description of Travel or In-Office and Physical Requirements
  • This role is expected to work onsite in a distribution center environment and may require flexibility to support business needs across multiple shifts, including a 24-hour operation.
  • May require standing, walking, sitting, and working in warehouse and office environments.
  • Must be able to respond to operational priorities, business-critical events, or emergency situations as needed.
  • Travel requirements should be confirmed based on business and site needs.
