Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Nursing Ambulatory Urology and Gynecology provides clinical and operational leadership for Ambulatory Urology and Gynecology Services, overseeing the delivery of specialized nursing care across outpatient practices and procedural areas. This role is responsible for ensuring effective nursing support for patients receiving evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of urologic and gynecologic conditions, while promoting safe, high-quality, evidence-based care throughout the patient experience. The Assistant Director oversees day-to-day clinical operations, patient flow, care coordination, procedural readiness, and the effective utilization of nursing resources across the service lines. Works closely with urologists, gynecologists, advanced practice providers, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate specialty care, support clinical procedures and treatments, address complex patient needs, and facilitate timely transitions and follow-up care. Provides leadership in staff development, clinical practice, quality improvement, patient safety, and performance management while ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards and MedStar Health policies and procedures. Collaborates with the Director of Nursing to advance clinical excellence, operational efficiency, patient access, and exceptional patient outcomes and experience across Ambulatory Urology and Gynecology Services.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides clinical and operational leadership for Ambulatory Urology and Gynecology Services, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, evidence-based nursing care across assigned outpatient practices and procedural areas.
  • Oversees daily nursing operations and patient care activities, including staffing, patient flow, clinical assignments, scheduling coordination, and resource utilization to support efficient access to specialty care.
  • Provides nursing leadership for patients receiving evaluation, treatment, and ongoing management of urologic and gynecologic conditions, ensuring care is coordinated across the outpatient continuum.
  • Collaborates with urologists, gynecologists, advanced practice providers, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care, support treatment plans, and address complex clinical and patient care needs.
  • Oversees nursing support for ambulatory specialty procedures and treatments, ensuring appropriate patient preparation, clinical monitoring, education, discharge planning, and follow-up.
  • Promotes consistent nursing practices related to patient assessment, symptom management, medication administration, patient education, clinical procedures, and post-procedure care within the scope of ambulatory Urology and Gynecology services.
  • Supports the coordination of care for patients requiring diagnostic testing, procedures, surgical services, specialty consultations, and follow-up appointments, promoting timely communication and continuity of care.
  • Ensures that nursing staff are appropriately trained and competent to provide specialty-specific care and support the clinical needs of the Urology and Gynecology patient populations.
  • Monitors clinical quality, patient safety, patient experience, and operational outcomes; identifies opportunities for improvement and leads or supports initiatives to enhance care delivery and outcomes.
  • Partners with physicians and clinical leaders to evaluate workflows, identify barriers to patient access and throughput, and implement strategies that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of ambulatory specialty services.
  • Provides leadership in staff recruitment, onboarding, development, performance management, and retention while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, professional growth, and clinical excellence.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Nursing in developing and implementing departmental goals, policies, procedures, standards of practice, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements, professional standards, and MedStar Health policies and procedures.
  • Promotes patient- and family-centered care by ensuring that patients receive appropriate education, resources, communication, and support throughout their Urology and Gynecology care journey.
  • Demonstrates leadership consistent with MedStar Health's mission, vision, goals, SPIRIT Values, patient care philosophy, and commitment to quality, safety, equity, and exceptional patient experience.

Minimal Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing from a nationally accredited program required
  • Master's degree in Nursing or a health related field from a nationally accredited program preferred

Experience
  • 2 -3 years of progressive nursing care experience required
  • Leadership and management experience preferred

Licenses and Certifications
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Valid in the State of Maryland or District of Columbia - jurisdiction is dependent on the entity of employment. Upon Hire required and
  • Specialty certification from a nationally recognized nursing organization in either a clinical specialty or Nursing Administration Upon Hire preferred and
  • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required and
  • Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

USD $102,606.00 - USD $196,996.00 /Yr.
