Job Description:

Criminal Justice Division

At this time, we are seeking current or previous prosecutors who are enthusiastic about working with federal, state and local law enforcement to actively investigate and prosecute a wide variety of criminal activity, including homicides, sexual abuse and assault cases, child abuse, and domestic violence, as well as public corruption and other crimes. The selected candidate will evaluate and pursue criminal cases, including conflict and specialty cases, at the request of district attorneys throughout the state. The finalist will also provide advice and support to district attorneys and their deputies and present at trainings across the state. The selected attorney may be stationed in Salem, Eugene, or Portland depending on need and office space availability. This position will also have the opportunity for some remote work.

Required
  • Active member of the Oregon State Bar in good standing on the effective date of appointment.
  • Five or more years' experience as a prosecutor.
  • Significant experience litigating cases.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of criminal and evidence codes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with people from a variety of disciplines (e.g., state agency personnel, law enforcement officers, county prosecutors, etc.).
  • Excellent organization, analytical, oral presentation and advocacy, and writing skills.
  • Willing and able to travel statewide, sometimes overnight, in order to meet case and outreach needs.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to public service.
  • Able to successfully clear a comprehensive criminal background investigation and reference checks. Finalists will be subject to a thorough criminal background investigation, as well as thorough employment reference checks. Adverse background data may be grounds for immediate disqualification.


Requested
  • Prosecution experience in a district attorney's office.
  • Experience prosecuting significant persons cases (e.g., homicide, measure 11 crimes, etc.).
  • Experience on multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience training prosecutors and/or law enforcement.
  • Experience working with police officers to investigate and prosecute criminal cases.

This OAJA-represented position will be filled at either the Assistant Attorney General or Senior Assistant Attorney General level, salary range $9,063.00 - $17,597.00 per month, depending primarily on years of legal practice experience and other factors. Employees who are Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) participating members will have their base salary increased by 6.95% and pay a 6% employee contribution to PERS; the salary range noted reflects base salary only.
