Job Title: Area Director of Human Resources

Location: Cluster of Unionized New York City Hotels - New York, NY

Department: Human Resources

Reports To: General Manager(s) with a dotted line to the Head of Human Resources

FLSA Status: Exempt

Work Type: Hybrid Position

Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary: The Area Director of Human Resources provides strategic and operational HR leadership for a cluster of lifestyle hotels throughout New York City. This hybrid role partners closely with property leadership teams and Corporate Human Resources to support labor relations, employee engagement, compliance, talent acquisition, and organizational effectiveness across multiple properties.nThe successful candidate will have significant experience in unionized hospitality environments, strong HRIS proficiency, and the ability to support fast-paced lifestyle hotel operations. This role requires prior hospitality HR and payroll experience in a unionized hotel environment. Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse associate population is highly valued.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all human resources functions across a cluster of New York City lifestyle hotels.
  • Partner with General Managers and department leaders on employee relations, workforce planning, organizational development, and performance management.
  • Administer collective bargaining agreements and provide guidance on union-related matters, grievances, investigations, and disciplinary actions.
  • Drive recruitment, onboarding, retention, and associate engagement strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and labor regulations.
  • Oversee HRIS administration, reporting, compliance tracking, and workforce analytics.
  • Support leadership development and training initiatives across the portfolio.
  • Partner with Corporate HR and Labor Relations on policy implementation and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Analyze workforce trends and recommend solutions to improve retention, productivity, and associate satisfaction.

  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive hospitality human resources experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in a unionized hotel environment required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of New York labor and employment laws.
  • Strong experience with HRIS systems, applicant tracking systems, and workforce management platforms.
  • Experience supporting multiple hotel locations preferred.
  • Strong communication, coaching, conflict resolution, and leadership skills.
  • Lifestyle, boutique, or independent hotel experience preferred.

Salary Range: $95,000 annually
