Full Job Description
Application Engineer - Field Development Program

Location: Beaverton, OR (Phase 1): Regionally based (Phase 2)

Overview

Tektronix is looking for a motivated early-career engineer to join our Application Engineering Development Program - a structured path designed to build deep technical expertise in electrical test and measurement instrumentation and grow into a rewarding, customer-facing technical career.

You'll start hands-on as an Application Engineer in our Technical Support Center (TSC), working directly with the engineers who use our products to solve real measurement challenges. As you build product mastery and customer insight, the program rotates you into a field-based role in one of our sales regions, where you'll apply that expertise face-to-face with customers as a trusted technical advisor, a role that grows to include commercial and business-development responsibility.

This is an ideal path for a recent graduate who enjoys applying engineering to real-world problems, likes working directly with people, and wants a career with room to grow across applications engineering, customer-facing technical roles, and commercial/sales leadership.

Program Structure & Growth Path

Phase 1: Application Engineering & Technical Support (9-12 months, based in Beaverton, OR)
  • Work as an Application Engineer in the Technical Support Center (TSC)
  • Develop expertise in oscilloscopes, signal generators, source measure units, parameter analyzers, and other test and measurement instruments
  • Provide pre- and post-sales technical support to engineers at leading technology companies
  • Help customers solve complex test challenges, troubleshoot equipment, and optimize measurement setups
  • Collaborate with Field Application Engineers (FAEs), Sales teams, and Product Engineering teams to deliver effective solutions
  • Create technical content such as application notes, training videos, and knowledge base articles
  • Build the deep customer and product insight that sets you up for the next phase of the program

Phase 2: Field-Based Technical Role (regionally based)
  • Apply your technical expertise directly with customers to drive their success - and business growth
  • Act as a trusted advisor, helping customers select the right solutions for their applications
  • Partner with Account Managers and FAEs to develop and execute account strategies
  • Conduct product demonstrations, proof-of-concept trials, and technical discovery discussions
  • Identify and develop new opportunities within your assigned accounts and region
  • Represent Tektronix at customer visits, trade shows, and industry events
  • Stay connected to internal teams - TSC, Marketing, and Product Line - to keep your customers well supported

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • Understanding of, or experience with, test and measurement instruments (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, DMMs, SMUs, etc.)
  • Hands-on lab experience in R&D, university projects, or internships involving signal-oriented test and measurement
  • Programming experience with at least one high-level language (Python, C#, LabVIEW, etc.), particularly for instrument control and automation
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage both internal teams and external customers
  • A genuine interest in customer engagement and problem-solving
  • Willingness to relocate to a sales region and travel within it after the training phase

Why Join Tektronix?
  • A structured development program with mentorship to build deep product and customer knowledge
  • Hands-on experience supporting cutting-edge technology customers in semiconductors, communications, aerospace & defense, and automotive
  • A clear growth path with strong potential across applications engineering, customer-facing technical roles, and sales
  • A collaborative, innovative, and customer-focused environment
