Summary

Celestica is hiring an Analytical Chemist with experience in creative problem solving and failure analysis of materials involved in the manufacturing of electronic components and assemblies. The goal of this role is to continuously improve the quality and reliability of electronic devices through laboratory testing. The Analytical Chemist is responsible for designing, developing, deploying, executing and optimizing test plans to assess product quality and reliability. We are seeking an experienced Failure Analysis Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive and timely failure analysis, constructional analysis, and technical services to both internal and external customers. As part of this role, you'll utilize advanced failure analysis analytical tools to investigate and resolve issues related to printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), Integrated Circuits (ICs) and electronics components.

Detailed Description

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:
  • Design, develop, and implement new lab test processes to support the understanding of the quality of customer products
  • Solve technical product, process, component, and related quality problems that affect the efficient operation and/or manufacture of electronic products.
  • Provide feedback to product designers, manufacturing and quality engineers and component suppliers on suitability of designs and processes for manufacturability
  • Develop novel test methods to investigate electronic product quality and reliability issues
  • Perform root cause failure analysis and provide corrective actions to prevent future product failures and improve reliability
  • Prepare reports identifying samples, explaining testing methods, documenting findings, and outlining conclusions of analyses.
  • Design and execute experimental procedures, including qualitative and quantitative testing of complex samples.
  • Validate and troubleshoot analytical methods
  • Developing test plans, quotes and documenting test process and preparing reports summarizing findings to customers
  • Overall project management and project lead for laboratory investigations


Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

  • Experienced in operating, calibrating, maintaining, troubleshooting and interpreting data from failure analysis laboratory equipment including: optical microscopy, FTIR, Ion Chromatography, SIR, DSC, TMA, TGA, SEM, cross-sectioning grinders and polishers and X-ray
  • Experienced in quality testing various materials including polymers, soldering fluxes, adhesives, epoxies and corrosion by-products
  • Experienced in complicated chemical failure analysis processes and developing unique test plans based on limited data
  • Experienced in researching and developing new laboratory chemical and failure analysis techniques and developing novel sample preparation techniques and analytical test methods to aid in the determining the root cause and corrective actions for failing electronic materials
  • Demonstrates confidence in describing root cause and corrective actions to internal and external customers and suppliers
  • Experienced in evaluating and selecting new analytical lab equipment
  • Knowledge of electrochemistry and its application to corrosion of electronic assemblies
  • Excellent English Communication Skills: High levels of organizational, team, interpersonal, and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • A high level of emotional intelligence: Consistently demonstrating the open mindedness of a problem solver who can collaboratively engage multiple people, in multiple departments, and work in difficult situations in a positive way.
  • Onsite: This position is 100% onsite -this is not a remote or hybrid position. In addition, the team member must be able to act competently in emergencies and work on a flexible schedule.
  • Expertise in MS-Office is required

  • Duties of this position are performed in a laboratory environment
  • Duties of the position are performed in a laboratory environment with frequent exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, and hazardous substances
  • Candidate must have excellent hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills and visual acuity in order to manipulate very small samples with tweezers under a microscope
  • Duties require extended periods of sitting and standing and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers, graphs and other detailed data
  • Repetitive manual movements (e.g., keyboard data entry, using a computer mouse, operating lab equipment, etc.) are frequently required.
  • Overtime and occasional travel will be required
