Overview

Brightstar Lottery is seeking a highly experienced Firmware Engineer with deep expertise in image processing to join our Retail Channel Engineering team. This role is critical to the development and optimization of cutting-edge firmware solutions that power our lottery products. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in C/C++ development, advanced image processing techniques, and a passion for innovation in AI and machine learning.

This is a hybrid role located in West Greenwich, RI. Applicants must reside within a commutable distance of the office.

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain high-performance software and embedded applications using C and C++.
  • Design and optimize computer vision and image processing solutions, including OCR, OMR, barcode recognition, and multispectral imaging technologies.
  • Enhance image and video quality through advanced mathematical, statistical, and computational techniques.
  • Apply machine learning and deep learning methodologies to improve image recognition, classification, and processing capabilities.
  • Build, curate, and manage image datasets used for training, validation, and performance evaluation of AI models.
  • Train, evaluate, and deploy machine learning models using frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and OpenCV.
  • Analyze and optimize solution performance, balancing accuracy, reliability, latency, and resource utilization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams, including software, hardware, systems, and data science, to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Research and evaluate emerging technologies in computer vision, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to drive innovation across Brightstar's product portfolio.


What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience developing software solutions using C/C++.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing computer vision and image processing algorithms.
  • Strong understanding of image analysis, pattern recognition, machine learning, and deep learning concepts.
  • Experience with OpenCV and deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and/or PyTorch.
  • Experience developing applications in Linux environments, including system-level programming.
  • Familiarity with embedded systems development is preferred.
  • Exposure to cloud-based development platforms such as AWS or Azure is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

At Brightstar, we consider a wide range of factors in determining compensation, including background, skills, experience, and work location. These factors can cause your compensation to vary. The estimated starting compensation range is $74,961 - $164,800. The actual pay offered may end up being higher or lower. The Company will comply with all local pay requirements and collective bargaining agreements, where applicable.

Base pay is only one part of our Total Rewards program. Sales roles may be eligible for commission payments, while other roles are eligible for discretionary bonuses. In addition, we offer employees a 401(k) Savings Plan with Company contributions, health, dental, and vision insurance, life, accident, and disability insurance, tuition reimbursement, paid time off, wellness programs, and identity theft insurance. Note: programs are subject to eligibility requirements.
