AI Specialist

FUNCTION:

The AI Specialist supports the development, testing, and adoption of artificial intelligence solutions that improve business processes, productivity, and decision-making. Reporting to the Director of AI, this role applies technical skills, analytical thinking, and curiosity in a collaborative corporate environment. The AI Specialist assists with data preparation, model evaluation, prompt development, documentation, and cross-functional AI initiatives that support responsible and practical AI applications.

INTERACTION:
• Reports to the Director of AI
• Partners with Technology, Data & Analytics, Store Operations, Merchandising, Finance, Human Resources, and other business teams to support AI use cases and implementation efforts

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES [Essential Functions]:

AI Development & Support
• Assist in developing, testing, and refining AI solutions, automations, and prompts that support business objectives.
• Prepare, organize, and validate data used for AI and machine learning initiatives.
• Evaluate AI outputs for quality, accuracy, consistency, and business relevance.
• Support the documentation of AI processes, workflows, and best practices.
• Research emerging AI tools and capabilities and share recommendations with the team.

Business Analysis & Implementation
• Work with business partners to gather requirements and identify opportunities for practical AI applications.
• Assist in pilot projects, user testing, and feedback collection for new AI-enabled tools and processes.
• Help monitor results, measure adoption, and identify improvement opportunities after implementation.

Responsible AI & Governance
• Follow established guidelines for data privacy, security, and responsible AI use.
• Assist in reviewing outputs for bias, risk, and policy alignment.
• Maintain clear documentation to support transparency, repeatability, and compliance.
• Escalate issues or concerns to leadership as appropriate.

Collaboration & Professional Growth
• Collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical teams to support project goals.
• Communicate findings, observations, and recommendations clearly in verbal and written formats.
• Participate in training, mentoring, and ongoing learning to build technical and business knowledge.
• Contribute ideas that improve team processes, experimentation, and innovation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Data Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
• Foundational knowledge of artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analysis, automation, or generative AI concepts gained through education, projects, internships, or related experience.
• Understanding of prompt development and evaluation concepts.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to learn quickly and work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred
• Internship, capstone, academic research, hands-on project work, or related experience in AI, analytics, automation, or software development.
• Experience using generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini, Claude, or similar platforms.
• Exposure to tools or frameworks such as Python, SQL, Microsoft Power Platform, Power BI, cloud-based AI services, or other automation and data visualization tools.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint.
• Interest in retail, consumer business, or applying AI to improve business operations and associate experiences.
• Demonstrated curiosity, initiative, and enthusiasm for emerging technology.
