AI Security Engineer

Position Overview

The AI Security & Governance Engineer is responsible for enabling the secure, responsible, and effective adoption of Artificial Intelligence across the organization. This role serves as the primary liaison between Security and Compliance Operations, IT, and business stakeholders to ensure AI technologies are implemented with appropriate security controls, governance processes, and monitoring capabilities.

The role focuses on AI risk management, security control development, governance, and operational oversight rather than hands-on AI development or manual code review. The successful candidate will help the organization leverage AI safely while adapting to rapidly evolving technologies, regulations, and AI-driven threats.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain AI security standards, governance requirements, and control frameworks.
  • Review and assess AI tools, agents, platforms, and use cases for security, privacy, compliance, and operational risk.
  • Partner with Security Operations, IT, and business teams to implement appropriate controls for AI-enabled solutions.
  • Monitor emerging AI threats, attack techniques, and industry best practices and translate them into actionable security controls.
  • Coordinate AI risk assessments, exception reviews, and governance activities.
  • Support the development of AI monitoring, logging, auditing, and incident response capabilities.
  • Evaluate third-party AI platforms, vendors, and integrations for security and governance risks.
  • Promote secure and responsible AI adoption through guidance, training, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on AI security, governance, and risk management.


Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity, information security, risk management, governance, or related fields.
  • Understanding of AI, Generative AI, LLMs, AI agents, and associated security risks.
  • Experience developing security policies, standards, controls, or governance programs.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms and enterprise security controls.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to translate business objectives into practical security and governance requirements.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with AI governance frameworks such as NIST AI RMF or ISO 42001.
  • Experience with commercial AI offerings including Microsoft Copilot and other business platforms.
  • Deep understanding of common AI-specific threats such as prompt injection, data leakage, agent misuse, and AI supply chain risks.
  • CISSP, CISM, CRISC, CCSP, or similar certifications.

Location

Remote - U.S.; preferably West Coast

The general salary range for this type of role is 102k - 153k depending on skills and experience. The actual compensation offered will ultimately be based on several factors such as: a candidate's location, and the level of applicable skills and professional experience. Rimini's target pay for each position is available upon request during the applicant's Interview process.
