Job Description

The Agile Project Manager (APM) role is a project leadership role who is responsible for helping software development teams in Flexible Architecture Simplified Technology business unit with planning, organizing, execution, delivery, and coaching agile teams towards high levels of performance, quality, and value for their customers. The APM continuously strives for delivery excellence using industry-tested project management, agile, and scrum principles and practices in a fast-paced technology environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as project leader of standing agile teams who work across the FAST organization from development teams through all functional / shared service areas to plan, coordinate, and execute value delivery of various business and technical initiatives; manages dependencies across teams as needed for successful delivery of cross-team initiatives.
  • Manages planning, estimation, and delivery of software and technology delivery projects using practices outlined by the FAST PMO and other practices outlined through collaboration with other leaders in Technology.
  • Works closely with Customer product owners to ensure the team strives to achieve shared understanding of deliverables' scope from the project / release planning level to work item level in the team's product backlogs. Also ensures a healthy product backlog that is continuously being refined and prioritized through collaboration with our External Clients.
  • Leads and oversees software release planning - ensures smooth planning, collaboration, communication, and execution of UAT and Production application deployments of value to customers and users.
  • Effectively manages, plans for, and mitigates risk to projects; relentlessly tracks down resolutions to critical issues or escalates when necessary.
  • Works with teams to ensure technology's organizational standards, tools, and best practices are implemented appropriately such as status reporting, KPIs and metrics, operational processes, time reporting and project reporting.
  • Where engaged in programs, collaborates with project and portfolio management colleagues in the business to coordinate and effectively manage development deliverable timelines, risks, and issues across the broader organization to manage other non-tech workstreams needed for successful delivery of value to our customers.
  • Serves as liaison between Development and Business to ensure smooth communication and prioritization of work.
  • Works to continuously improve the team, both technically and culturally. Guide Project Managers who require extending the range or depth of their competency.
  • Identifies, assesses and manages risks to the success of the project, including the provision and use of contingency for those risks which are to be managed.

Scrum & Agile
  • Works with other leaders in technology to create an environment that encourages team growth, a culture of continuous improvement, and leads teams towards high levels of performance and delivery excellence.
  • Coaches and guides Internal/External teams on the importance of agile values and principles to build culture of self-organization, collaboration, empowerment, transparency, and how the scrum framework should be adopted in practice.
  • Diligently performs the role of scrum master for their teams to ensure teams are appropriately leveraging the roles, ceremonies, and artifacts of the scrum framework; also shields teams from impediments and resolves them quickly when they arise.


Qualifications

  • Proven experience serving as an Agile Project Manager and/or ScrumMaster for software development teams, understanding of Agile Project Management concepts and values.
  • Expert ScrumMaster, with demonstrated ability to recognize obstacles as they impede the team's progress and to employ techniques to coach the team to continuously improve and self-organize.
  • Deep experience managing risks and opportunities within a project.
    Skills and Knowledge
  • Demonstrate a business-focused approach, achievement of business objectives, and the identification of further business opportunities.
  • Expert knowledge of Agile Project Life Cycles (Scrum, Kanban) and tools (Confluence, Jira).
  • Expert in Agile Values and Principles as a mindset and in practice.
  • Critical thinking skills, specifically the ability to identify issues, propose solutions and lead the effort in resolving the issues.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence teams, maintain focus, and resolve conflicts.
  • Display adaptability and flexibility to deal with the non-routine or unexpected situations
  • Familiarity with basic development technologies and skills
  • Influencing the team culture to align with the Agile values and principles
  • Ability to negotiate in reference to time management and deliverables.
