Full Job Description
Summary:
The Administrative Director of Respiratory Care provides oversight and leadership for respiratory therapy and pulmonary diagnostic services at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Plans, develops, implements and directs daily operation of the respiratory team responsible for providing in-patient and out-patient respiratory services. Ensures that the department and hospital mission, goals and strategic initiatives are achieved. Provides leadership across hospital departments working with the medical director and other clinical and administrative leaders from multiple departments to assure the delivery of high quality services. Represents the Respiratory Care department as a leader in the Clinical Operations division and is an active participant in hospital committees. Provides oversight for department Quality assurance and Performance Improvement activities and assures regulatory compliance. Leads, mentors and develops respiratory care leaders and staff. Effectively communicates across a large and complex environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for program oversight and strategic planning aligning with hospital and health system goals
  • Provides financial oversight and manages Capital and operational budgets
  • Assures department productivity and monitors key performance indicators for success across department to maintain efficient, cost-effective delivery of high quality services provided by the department including diagnostic testing, therapeutic interventions and patient assessment in the inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Develops policies and procedures in conjunction with the leadership team that support daily operations and assure regulatory compliance/continuous survey readiness and evidence based practice
  • Responsible for patient safety and high reliability of services provided by the Respiratory Care department.
  • Provides leadership for the Respiratory Care department across the organization, interfaces with other department leaders and works collaboratively to develop partnerships within the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and the health system. Fosters a culture of engagement, collaboration and shared accountability
  • Manages contracts for agency and student affiliation agreements. Assures the implementation of effective systems to support a large inventory of clinical equipment and supplies.
  • Oversees recruitment activities, works to develop strategies that support staff retention, orientation/training, credentialing and the performance appraisal process.
  • Provides leadership for department activities that support staff continuing education, competency, leadership development and staff well-being.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 10+ years' experience in clinical leadership/hospital operations and/or Respiratory Therapy program management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist
