Full Job Description
As an accounting principal on the Global Lease Accounting team, you will have the opportunity to be a part of an incredible team that supports our global lease portfolio. This role will support accounting close and financial reporting activities, develop reporting and analyses to maintain accuracy of the financial statements and support business partners, implement and document new and current accounting processes, and review deliverables to support SEC filings. You will collaborate with teams across Starbucks to help grow our existing business and support new initiatives as well as prepare and review quarterly financial reporting deliverables.

This partner will be responsible for overseeing the accounting activities and analysis needed to support our internal and external financial reporting requirements, including several financial statement footnotes, as well as act as an accounting subject-matter expert, leading occupancy-related projects from the accounting lens and providing business partners with clear and consistent accounting guidance and education.

This role has no direct reports, but a successful partner is comfortable leading partners at various levels on the team, reviewing the work of other partners, and providing informal coaching and feedback.

Business requirements
• Acts as a subject matter expert in accounting practices and processes and provides customers with clear and consistent guidance and education.
• Leads and motivates the team to drive proactive collaboration with client groups to implement continuous process improvements to support the growth of the business.
• Manages and executes month-end close process to ensure timely and accurate financial data in compliance with US GAAP and Starbucks accounting policies. Recommends solutions, maintains consistency and leadership when issues arise during close.
• Identifies key risks and opportunities and works cross functionally to provide solutions that drive process improvements and strengthen the control environment.
• Advise on accounting and financial impacts of new or proposed transactions, quantifies opportunities and risks, and recommends solutions.
• Provides oversight to ensure systems, processes and internal controls are consistently applied.
• Participate in cross-functional teams implementing accounting solutions for new business activities.
• Participates in implementation of systems directly utilized by accounting, including defining system requirements, testing and training. Identifies and implements process or procedural modifications indicated by systems requirements.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Ability to assess business processes and implement improvements and controls
• Understanding of US GAAP and internal controls
• Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or other ERP)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate accounting results to both accounting and non-accounting customers at various levels of the organization.
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills
• Ability to build relationships and influence others in order to achieve successful outcome in cross-functional projects and activities

As an accounting principal, you will...
• Be an integral part of the success of the team - You will be responsible for reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and/or financial statement disclosures for accuracy and compliance with company policies and applicable accounting principles.
• Be a subject matter expert representing the lease accounting team - You will lead resolution of highly complex accounting issues with enterprise relevance, define accounting approaches and standards within areas of expertise, provide strategic technical advice to senior stakeholders, anticipate emerging accounting issues and develop forward looking solutions, and serve as an authoritative accounting resource across the organization.
• Maintain and develop various accounting systems and processes - You will be responsible for maintaining and developing the various systems in your area and will have the opportunity to recommend and implement improvements to existing systems and processes. Contribute to accounting strategy and long term process improvement and automation initiatives.
• Support month and quarter end close - You will support quarterly earnings reporting and ongoing budget and forecasting processes and effectively produce ad-hoc reporting and analysis to support business operational, financial and strategic decisions.

• Minimum 9 years of progressive experience in accounting.
• CPA strongly preferred.

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
