  • Analyze variances in balance sheets and expense accounts to provide valuable insights.
  • Research and resolve accounting discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to the monthly P&L forecast process alongside the Finance team.

Title: Accountant
Location: Independence, MO

Salary: $80,300 - $102,300

Schedule: 980 schedule

Focus: Olin Winchester, LLC ("Winchester"), considered one of the world's leading ammunition manufacturers,is seeking an Accountant. This position will be located at the Lake City Army Ammunitions Plant in Independence, MO.

Accountant - Essential Job Functions:
  • Participate in the monthly financial close process.
  • Be a reliable resource for key weekly deliverables (e.g. labor posting, inventory reports, etc.).
  • Take ownership of key account reconciliations and balances to identify risks to the financial statements.
  • Prepare and post journal entries, including the maintenance of standard journal entries.
  • Provide analytic analysis for variances in balance sheet and expense accounts.
  • Assist with researching, tracking, and resolving accounting problems and discrepancies.
  • Contributes to the monthly P&L forecast process led by the Finance team.
  • Continuously identify, develop, and implement process improvements and internal controls.
  • Prepare quarterly/annual schedules that support corporate reporting and respond to inquiries.
  • Assist in other standard and ad-hoc analyses and reporting requests.

Accountant Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree* in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in general accounting, cost accounting, or financial planning and analysis (FP&A)
  • Able to interpret and apply General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Interpretation and application of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations Supplement (DFARS), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) and other federal agency regulations preferred.
  • Working knowledge of standard Microsoft Office tools, including advanced Excel skills.
  • Knowledgeable of ERP systems as they relate to the General Ledger and use of reporting tools preferred.
  • Experience with Deltek Costpoint and Cognos reporting software highly desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities, manage high-volume workload and willingness to be collaborative and support team efforts
  • Must possess excellent analytical, communication (verbal and written), leadership, organizational, presentation, problem-solving, project management, and decision-making skills.

Location-Specific Requirements:
  • Must possess a valid US driver's license.
  • This position requires successful vetting as an Employee Possessor in accordance with U.S. Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
  • This position requires access to ITAR controlled technical data, and as such, employment will be contingent upon the candidate's ability to access ITAR controlled technical data pursuant to an export license approved by the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, if required.
  • This position requires successful vetting for unescorted access in accordance with U.S. Army and Department of Defense access policies. To meet the government-facility requirements, the candidate must be a US citizen.

*Degree must be from a school that is accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the Secretary of Education of the U.S. Department of Education or equivalent program from an international university.
