The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are adding an Account Executive to our growing Technical Services division in Chicago, IL. Are you a driven and highly motivated sales professional passionate about the built environment? We seek a dynamic candidate to join our team of high-performing sales professionals. In this role, you will have the opportunity to significantly impact the industry by offering consultative sales solutions to our clients in the built environment. We're looking for someone with proven sales success or someone who comes from the buyers' side in local government, or finally someone who has technical expertise and looking to pivot into sales.

In this role, your day-to-day will consist of:
  • Developing and executing a sales plan to achieve and exceed sales targets.
  • Building solid relationships with key stakeholders and decision-makers in the built environment.
  • Delivering consultative sales solutions to meet the unique needs of each client.
  • Staying up-to-date with industry trends and innovations and sharing this knowledge with clients.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure a seamless sales experience for our clients.
  • Conduct outreach to both warm and new leads in order to get meetings with prospective clients.
  • Participate in thought leadership at conferences and organizations related to local government (cities and counties), energy and sustainability to build our local brand as experts in facility planning and consulting.

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry
  • 2-4 years of proven sales experience with a strong track record of achieving and exceeding targets. Or, have personal network and purchasing experience coming from the buyers' side within local government.
  • A self-starter mentality with a drive to continuously learn and grow.
  • Motivated to be a high performer and be compensated for success and hard work.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, construction management, architecture, or equivalent business experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of financial acumen.
  • An understanding of the built environment and the challenges faced by our clients.
  • Strong consultative sales skills and the ability to build relationships and trust with key stakeholders.
  • The ability to understand and articulate complex technical solutions to non-technical clients.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

The base pay range for this position is $84,800 - 126,800 per year plus sales commission; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay information is based on market location. A sales incentive bonus plan will be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
