Position Highlights

The University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and collaborative Academic Program Coordinator, Senior to support its dynamic research and training environment. As Arizona's only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center, UACC is home to more than 170 members across three robust scientific research programs-Cancer Biology, Prevention and Control, and Clinical and Translational Oncology.

Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Cancer Research, Training, and Education (CRTEC), the Academic Program Coordinator, Senior oversees the daily operations of multiple science education and training programs. These programs serve undergraduate and graduate students, early-career scientists, and junior faculty. The coordinator acts as the primary point of contact for participants, evaluators, and collaborators. Responsibilities include program development, scheduling, student support services, coordinating seminars and workshops, monitoring expenditures in collaboration with the Associate Director, tracking trainee progress, evaluating program outcomes, and liaising with campus partner programs.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • With minimal supervision, designs, develops, and implements career development coursework focused on grant writing, manuscript preparation, and publication skills for graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and early-career faculty.
  • Develops curriculum, program design and metrics, and logic modeling.
  • Coordinates the evaluation of program activities and outcomes.
  • Create new classroom-based course designs and certificate programs.
  • Researches and designs programs for new funding opportunities.
  • Initiates partnerships for new projects.
  • Maintains relationships with university programs to assist in identifying opportunities for coordination.
  • Coordinate trainee recruitment and selection.
  • Serve as a resource to program participants (trainees) and track program participants through academic records, publications, funding applications and awards, and long term outcomes.
  • Maintains strong connections and communication with current and past program participants to improve tracking.
  • Coordinates resources and partners with fellow CRTEC staff to acquire tracking and outcome data from national and university databases, online social networks, and individual surveys.
  • Provide day-to-day program administration and oversight of assigned training programs including compliance with budgets, goals, and compliance to sponsor or UACCC guidelines.
  • Documents and reports on program progress and outcomes.

  • Flexibility to travel and work some evenings/weekends.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, in verbal and written format.
  • Ability to work independently, handle stressful and fast-paced work environments.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in health sciences or other relevant field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in higher education, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters and 8 years of relevant experience in a higher education institution.
  • Experience in academic advising, trainee/student development, support, and placement.
  • Experience with UAccess, UAnalytics, and D2L, and UA education evaluation resources.
  • Experience managing and supporting federally funded training programs, experience with sponsor and internal progress reports.
