Job Description:

Caterpillar is hiring a 2nd Shift Paint Production Manager in Sanford, North Carolina, to lead paint manufacturing operations in a high-performance production environment. This role is responsible for driving safety, quality, production efficiency, and team performance within the Paint Department.

If you have experience in manufacturing leadership, paint systems (powder coat or liquid), and Lean / Six Sigma environments, this is an opportunity to lead impactful operations at a world-class facility.

What You Will Do

As a Production Manager 6 Paint Operations, you will:

  • Lead and supervise production team members on 2nd shift, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing operations
  • Oversee daily production schedules, staffing plans, and workflow coordination across the paint line
  • Drive safety compliance, hazard identification, and environmental standards in a paint manufacturing setting
  • Train, coach, and develop employees while managing performance, attendance, and employee engagement
  • Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Quality, Logistics, and Maintenance to meet production targets and resolve issues
  • Maintain and improve documentation related to standard work, operating procedures, and quality systems
  • Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives (Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S) to optimize efficiency and reduce waste
  • Collaborate with site leadership and other Production Managers to improve plant-wide performance

Key Skills & Qualifications
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Performance Management: Knowledge of successful performance management techniques; ability to apply organization9s performance management system, practices, and tools to developing and improving individual, team, and organizational performance.
  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing teams to production, cost, and efficiency targets
  • Leadership experience in manufacturing, industrial operations, or military environments
  • Hands-on knowledge of:
    • Powder coating systems
    • Liquid paint systems
    • Pre-treatment chemical application
    • Shot blast operations
  • Exposure to multiple functional areas (e.g., Quality, Logistics, Maintenance)
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification preferred
  • Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement frameworks

Summary Pay Range:

$89,210.00 - $133,810.00
