As the IS Senior Business Analyst on the Business Applications Team (1053), reporting to the Director of Student Information System/Project Management within the Department of Technology, you will serve as a technical lead in developing digital tools and resources to improve the use of student systems by SFUSD staff, families, and students. We want someone who will lead the execution of our product roadmaps through strong technical solutions that meet user needs. We want a team player who will support our ongoing operations and help move us into the future. The ideal candidate will have at least intermediate technical skills, but most important, will be an eagerness to learn new business practices and structures, and embrace large and complex projects with increasing responsibilities.
Essential Duties

As the IS Business Analyst-Senior, duties are specified below:
- Support Student Information Systems processes including system upgrades, maintenance, enrollment, online applications, and integrations with other district systems
- Conduct system analysis and user requirements for enhancements for our users
- Oversee tickets in Zendesk, supporting Tier 2/3 assistance and analysis for end users, managers, and power users
- Draft and maintain system and application documentation; develop training guides and provide training for users on system functionality
- Collaborate with and provide support for central office departments such as Enrollment Center (EC), Research, Planning, & Assessment (RPA), Early Education Department (EED) to ensure their workflows in the system are successful; assess for functionality updates needed
- Help execute on a shared vision of a modern, robust, integrated, easy-to-use system providing clean, valuable, actionable data
- Analyze data and data processing needs to evaluate and improve processes software across platforms
- Develop reports and visualizations for users to analyze student needs; develop SSRS and Siren reports for central office departments using SQL
- Use data to improve processes and operations to continuously improve upon existing practices
- Conduct solution walkthroughs and document proposed system changes, interface with users to define system requirements and review impacts of changes
- Assist in preparing service requests with vendor(s) and prioritize based on effort and cost
- Develop or modify system designs and write detailed specifications
- Program, test, debug, and install new or modified software
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to a general audience and other non-technical team members
- Provide data visualization and analysis of Student Information (SIS), enrollment, and other data issues and work to provide solutions
- Performs other related duties

- The ability to learn quickly and adapt as needed in a fast-paced environment

- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with senior level district staff and colleagues

- Strong computer skills including GSuite (Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms)
Supervision Exercised
May provide limited supervision to professional subordinate positions, or assume responsibility for coordinating a defined program. However, supervisory responsibilities are ancillary to the main intent and focus of the positions.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: An associate degree in business administration, public administration, information systems, economics, finance, computer science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university OR its equivalent in terms of total course credits/units [i.e., at least sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter credits/units with a minimum of twenty (20) semester or thirty (30) quarter credits/units in one of the fields above or a closely-related field].
Experience: Three (3) years in the information systems field, including system analysis, business process design, development and implementation of business application solutions or IT project management.
Substitution: Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of two (2) years). One (1) year is equivalent to thirty (30) semester units / forty-five (45) quarter units with a minimum of 10 semester / 15 quarter units in computer science or a closely related field.
