The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) is an American auto racing sanctioning and operating company that is best known for stock-car racing. The privately owned company was founded by Bill France Sr. in 1948, and his family has controlled NASCAR ever since. NASCAR sanctions over 1,500 races at over 100 tracks in 48 US states as well as in Canada, Mexico, and Europe. NASCAR has its own rules and regulations for the race teams to follow, and it also has its own safety and medical teams. NASCAR has three national series: the NASCAR Cup Series, the NASCAR Xfinity Series, and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. NASCAR also owns several racing tracks, including the Daytona International Speedway, the Talladega Superspeedway, and the Homestead-Miami Speedway.
