The Maryland State Police (MDSP), officially the Department of State Police, is the official state police force of the U.S. state of Maryland. The Maryland State Police is headquartered at Pikesville in Baltimore County and is the primary law enforcement agency in the state. It was founded in 1921 and is currently led by Colonel Woodrow W. Jones III. The department has a variety of specialized units including the Aviation Command, the Criminal Investigation Bureau, the Homeland Security and Intelligence Bureau, and the Special Operations Bureau.
