The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) is a government agency within the United States Department of the Treasury that designs and produces a variety of security products for the United States government, most notable of which is Federal Reserve Notes (paper money) for the Federal Reserve System. The BEP was established in 1862 and is responsible for producing billions of dollars in U.S. currency each year. The BEP also produces other security documents such as passports, identification cards, and naturalization certificates. The BEP is headquartered in Washington, D.C.
