The Top 10 cities where employment rates and industries are thriving (and how to get a job there)

While several of us are having difficulty adjusting to the new normal several job markets had to do the same. We are nearing month 8 of living with the coronavirus and all of the complications that come along with it including job losses. There is some good news however, a recent report from WalletHub Communications proves the job market has bounced back 46% from what it was at the peak of this crisis earlier this year.

The national unemployment rate is 7.9% compared to the abysmal 14.7% it reached when cases and shutdowns were at their peak. Let’s take a look at the states in the country where job recovery is climbing and what sort of positions you should look into applying for while you’re there.

1. Lincoln, Nebraska

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the lowest claims of unemployment benefits in this state. Although cases are climbing again due to the cold weather, Lincoln, Nebraska has managed to weather the storm of this crisis reporting lower claims for unemployment benefits the week of October 19th and beyond. This denotes a slow recovery but recovery nonetheless.

2. Bismarck, North Dakota

We found job gains were recovering at a healthy pace in North Dakota after our interview with WalletHub Communication’s manager Diana Polk earlier this week. We took into account the level of unemployment from September of last year compared to September of this year simultaneously cross-referencing the increase of jobs by looking at unemployment rates from January 2020 to September 2020 to include and account for losses that were pandemic related.
