Samsung is hiring 40,000 people; some salaries in the $100K-$250K range

Samsung Group announced on Tuesday that it will hire 40,000 works in a $205 billion expansion.
• The company said it plans to target two branches: Samsung Electronics and Biologics.
• They’re hiring right now, primarily in Texas.

In a $205 billion expansion announced on Tuesday, Samsung — the multinational electronics manufacturer — said it will hire 40,000 people over three years, as the Samsung Group looks to extend its arm in several sectors, including telecommunications, robotics, and corporate acquisitions, Bloomberg reported.

The hiring wave comes nearly a year after Samsung broke ground on its “Super Plant,” a 238,000-square-meter biopharmaceutical manufacturing plant in Incheon, South Korea. It will help fill positions in two of the company’s branches –– Samsung Electronics and Biologics, according to a recent statement.

Samsung’s expansion is set to bring in 40,000 new employees through 2023, and that number could be even larger — potentially reaching 560,000 new jobs through “further investment and production,” accoridng to Fierce Pharma.

The cash infusion, 240 trillion won ($205 billion), is aimed to help the company prepare economically in a post-COVID-19 world, according to Samsung.

What does Samsung Electronics do?

From phones and watches to semiconductors and memory chips, Samsung Electronics specializes in producing home appliances/entertainment and security products. It’s among the world’s largest memory chip makers and hopes the investment of funds will help strengthen the group’s hold on the market.

“The chip industry is the safety plate of the Korean economy… Our aggressive investment is a survival strategy in a sense that once we lose our competitiveness, it is almost impossible to make a comeback,” Samsung Electronics said in a statement.

Samsung Electronics recently unveiled new products like the Galaxy Watch4, a smartwatch for Android, and the Galaxy Z Fold 3, a foldable smartphone.

What is Samsung Biologics?

The biopharmaceutical branch at the company, Samsung Biologics, recently started helping production of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine in South Korea. It had announced in July that it planned to add an mRNA vaccine drug substance manufacuting plant; mRNA is the vaccine that Moderna produces.

How much does Samsung pay?

We reached out to Samsung Group for more information about what type of jobs they’re filling; we did not hear back.

For example, the company is seeking a Senior Manager of Digital Customer Experience (CX) Strategy for its mobile business unit that pays between $150,000 and $200,000. Samsung said it is looking for a strong leader to build partnership with key leaders across the orgaization and wants someone with more than 12 years experience.

At its R&D Center in Austin, TX, Samsung is is looking to hire a GPU Physical Design Engineering Lead to help develop Samsung’s GPU IP.

“The candidate is tasked with driving synthesis, block and full chip implementation through sign-off with the latest industry P&R/STA flows and tools. Significant block level floor-planning, implementing and optimizing the design to meet aggressive performance/power and area targets will be critical for success,” the post says.
