The average salary of a Chipotle general manager is $100K — and they’re hiring

Your next six-figure salary could be at Chipotle.

With restaurants struggling to hire workers amid the ongoing pandemic, Chipotle Mexican Grill — the fast-casual eatery specializing in tacos and burritos — announced it’s increasing its average hourly wage to $15 per hour, while some employees could make $100,000 after just a few years at the chain.

In as little as three and a half years, Chipotle’s crew members can advance to “restaurateur,” the highest general manager position, which carries an average salary of $100,000, the company announced.

“Chipotle is committed to providing industry-leading benefits and accelerated growth opportunities, and we hope to attract even more talent by showcasing the potential income that can be achieved in a few short years,” said Marissa Andrada, Chief Diversity, Inclusion and People Officer at Chipotle, earlier this week. “We’re looking for people who are authentic, passionate and want to help cultivate a better world through real food and real personal development.”

Higher pay for hourly and salaried workers

Chipotle pledges to increase wages for new and existing hourly and salaried employees in the next few weeks, which will result in hourly crew member starting wages between $11 and $18 per hour ($15 average).

Amazon announced a similar move earlier this week after the company said it is looking to add 75,000 employees to its workforce, which includes better pay.

And there’s a bonus system

Additionally, Chipotle said it started a new referral bonus program. Workers can get $200 bonus when they refer a crew member and $750 for apprentices or general managers.

The company also has plans to expand its presence in the coming year; they’re adding around 200 restaurants this year, while it said it will look to hire 20,000 new team members across the US.

The beefed-up hiring efforts come as much of the fast food industry continues its hiring spree. Recently, Taco Bell said it hopes to hire at least 5,000 people and IHOP aims to add 10,000 new workers. McDonald’s is looking to hire 25,000 workers in Texas.

Ladders currently has more than three dozen jobs available at Chipotle including a slew of tech jobs that could be of interest to someone that wants to dip their toes into fast food.

Chipotle is currently looking to hire a senior people systems analyst to aid its Human Resources department. The position can operate remotely anywhere in the US.

The company is also hiring a regional training manager to help build a sustainable training culture. This job — estimated at $100,000 to $150,000 — requires 5 to 8 years of supervisory experience and requires collaboration in training programs, coordinating new training initiatives, and most importantly, training restaurant workers in the region.
