- Describe an experience conducting sales process assessments, making recommendations, and implementing those recommendations. How did you conduct your assessments, gain approvals, and go about implementing your recommendations with sales? What was the outcome?
- Tell me about a time you assessed and implemented budget resources across, for example, incentives compensation, sales planning, samples distribution, etc. How did you assess, plan, gain approvals, and implement these budgetary resources?
- Describe an experience in which coordinating sales forecasting and planning proved difficult to manage. What were the issues causing this, how did you find solutions, and what was the outcome?
- Tell me about a time you developed and assigned sales team quotas, ensuring all were assigned across all sales channels in an efficient and timely manner. How did you go about this task from start to completion?
- Describe an experience in which you identified opportunities for sales process improvements. How did you identify these opportunities, what were they, how were they implemented, and what were the results?
Intelligence & Capacity for Learning
- Describe an experience in which you identified or approved new Sales & Ops software - Prospect CRM or Logility Voyager Solutions, for example. How did you ensure a smooth transition to these new softwares for sales teams and what was the outcome?
- Tell me about a time you proactively oversaw and assessed sales quality levels, efficiency and consistency across the sales organization’s planning and implementations. How did you go about this task, who did you rely on for data and updates, and what was the result?
- Tell me about a time recently when you went about researching your industry, competitors and evolving client needs in terms of driving sales revenue growth. How did you go about this, what happened, and how do you keep up-to-date generally?
- Describe an experience in which you enhanced measurement and reporting on key revenue and sales pipeline metrics by developing analytical frameworks, tools and techniques. How did you research, plan, develop and implement these resources? What was the outcome?
- Tell me about a time you oversaw and played a hands-on role in the scaling of methodologies designed to improve sales team productivity and success. What were the results?
Time Management
- Tell me about a time when your many responsibilities as Director of Sales Operations, such as coordinating forcasting, planning, and budgeting, overseeing operations, identifying and monitoring process improvements, etc., threatened to spiral out of control. What did you do?
- Describe an experience in which disruption in your industry, caused by shifts in trends, compliance requirements or other, meant adaption had to happen fast at a large scale. What was the issue, how was it first identified, and how was it managed?
- Tell me about a time you gave your support to a problem with, for example, confusion in sales management over process bottlenecks or inconsistencies. What did you do to ensure swift identification and resolution to this issue or issues? What was the outcome?
- Describe an experience in which you dealt with failures in, for example, the accurate and/or efficient distribution of sales reports or other essential data. How did you identify the issue and bring about a long-term fix?
- Tell me about a time you worked with sales management to identify and invest in optimal technologies. How did you approach time management with regard to training and adaptation periods on the part of sales teams? What was the outcome?
Communication Skills
- Describe an experience partnering with or giving support to cross-functional departments to resolve issues or execute successful implementations. How did you express advice or explain needs to people of different skillsets and different levels? What was the outcome?
- Tell me about a time there were conflicting ideas during high-level meetings on strategy or key sales business objectives. How did you assess the core arguments, and how did you try to ensure that conflict led to creative solutions rather than deadlock? What happened?
- Describe an experience, if any, in which you needed to bring sales departments together in order to deliver negative news, as well as proposed ways forward. What was the situation, how did you plan out and deliver this news, and what was the outcome? What did you learn?
- Tell me about a time you provided input to executives on, for example, the development and implementation of a sales incentives program. How did you transform legal, compliance and other complexities into clear, easily absorbable information? What was the outcome?
- Describe an experience in which you drove enthusiasm, productivity and creativity in support of the need for continuous improvement of sales-organization initiatives. How did you go about planning and executing this productivity drive, and what results did you see?
Leadership
- Describe an experience in which you led sales teams to achieve strategic objectives aimed at sales and revenue growth. What part did you play in the creation of those strategies and subsequent oversight, monitoring, trouble-shooting, hands-on involvement, etc?
- Describe an experience in which some executives agreed with you on a sales-impact strategy, while a dominant executive member or members didn’t. How did you choose to defend your strategy and hard work, and assert your expertise? What was the outcome?
- Tell me about a time a sales team struggled with a strategy you had approved or developed. How did you assess the issues, identify solutions, lift team morale and bring about a positive long-term outcome?
- Describe an experience in which you gave your full support to the ideas and initiatives of your sales operations team, only to see them challenged by some members of higher management. How did you defend your team and their work, and what was the outcome?
- Tell me about a time, if any, when sales goals were not met over an extended period and you were asked by higher management to explain what had gone wrong. What do you now feel had gone wrong, how did you explain it at the time, and what did you learn?
