About the role...

Have you overseen an office's workplace support operations that deliver unique experiences and reflect strong values? Do you love to bring people together to achieve great things? Are you excited by ideas about how to innovate workplaces for the future? We're looking for a Workplace Specialist who will lead the tactical operations of our office in Detroit.

You will...
  • Lead all aspects of Detroit workplace - For our Detroit site spread across 2 floors, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations (food & beverage, badge access, janitorial, visits/tours, etc), delivering high-quality workplace experiences for employees and visitors that reflect Duolingo's values. You will collaborate cross-functionally with Duos to ensure exceptional service and hospitality that exceed expectations for a collaborative, fast-growing tech company. You will support local workplace initiatives, customer events, and neighborhood engagement.
  • Lead office initiatives and projects - You will help support tenant improvement and XFN projects in our spaces, such as construction, IT/AV. You will collaborate with workplace peers and Site Leads while leading local space strategy.
  • Manage others - You will help select and process invoices for local third-party providers such as food services, security, and facilities. You will establish and maintain positive relationships with these providers to ensure their positive impact on Duolingo. You will proactively identify opportunities needed to enhance their workplace support.
  • Support Detroit's local teams - You will assist with office budgets, including operating expenses, capital expenditures, and workplace expenses. You will help manage conference budgets and provide Duos with travel guidance for all Detroit offsite-related needs. Finally, you will host engaging weekly meetings to cultivate culture and community with these local design artists by showcasing current studio projects.

  • 3+ years of dynamic experience supporting outstanding office environments with demonstrated success in employee experience
  • Strength leading cross-functional teams - you extract great outcomes from people who like to work with you.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying, partnering with, and leading various outsourced providers.
  • Ability to uplift operational processes, including those that are new, nebulous, and constantly iterating.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact with diverse audiences, from external providers to global employees, from senior leaders to day porter staff.
  • Collaboration and resilience to drive iterative, cross-functional change in a high-growth environment.
  • Foresight to strategize the future of our workplace footprint with design solutions to scale.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, architecture, real estate, or a related field.
  • Ability to work full-time from or relocate to Detroit, MI, and work in our office five days per week.
  • Ability to travel up to 5% of the time to other office locations
