Wealth Advisor

DUCA is looking for a Wealth Advisor in the Newmarket to join our growing team!

Job Purpose & Summary

Along with our third-party Wealth Management partner, DUCA provides a fully comprehensive wealth management offering that encompasses a holistic Member-centric experience delivered through a network of leading financial and investment professionals.

Reporting to the VP, Wealth Management, the Wealth Advisor provides investment, retirement, and financial planning advice, with the focus on consolidation of investment assets through two broad groups of activity. Firstly, the Wealth Advisor is directly responsible for gathering investment assets through investment, retirement, and financial planning advice to clients/Members. Secondly, the Wealth Advisor will regularly meet with Wealth clients to review portfolios and assist with retirement, estate, and financial plans. The Wealth Advisor will work in close collaboration with the retail branch network to ensure Members are receiving the necessary advice and ongoing service.

The Wealth Advisor will provide wealth management solutions and support up to three DUCA branches within their region.

Key Accountabilities & Duties
  • Build a portfolio of high-value Wealth clients across territory, driving net sales targets annually through branch referrals, as well as internal and external prospecting activities
  • Generate branch referrals by visiting assigned branches regularly. Build collaborative working relationships and teamwork with branch staff to identify current and potential clients with investment and financial planning needs
  • Make pro-active calls to existing DUCA clients to offer investment, retirement, and financial planning services
  • Draw on external networks (friends, family, client referrals, centres of influence) to attract new Wealth clients
  • Complete Investment portfolio review and analysis for each referral to enhance probability of acquiring new clients
  • Use financial planning & life insurance needs analysis tools to develop plans and recommendations
  • Drive asset consolidation among existing clients by attracting portfolios currently managed at other financial institutions
  • Actively build investment and product knowledge as well as advisory capability among branch colleagues to support achievement of their own sales and client acquisition targets
  • Become an integral member of the Branch sales team, conducting regular information sessions/seminars, both one-on-one with registered representatives and as a group with all branch employees
  • Refer clients, as appropriate, to DUCA's insurance, trust and estate planning partners
  • Develop and maintain extensive knowledge of DUCA specific products and investment vehicles for use in portfolio development
  • Identify and assist in developing opportunities for retail banking products and services with Credit Union branch partners

Occupational Experience & Education Requirements
  • Completion of the Canadian Securities Course (CSC), Conduct & Practices Handbook (CPH), and Wealth Management Essentials (WME)
  • Additional designations, such as Certified Investment Manager (CIM) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), may be required as DUCA's product line evolves
  • Currently registered as an Investment Representative
  • Experience managing portfolios larger than $100,000 considered an asset
  • Personal Financial Planner (PFP) or Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation, or working towards completion of PFP or CFP considered an asset
  • Expert knowledge of the investment industry, products, and the principles of investment advice / financial planning
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Financial Planning / Investment Sales
  • Post-secondary diploma/degree, ideally in Commerce, Business Administration or related experience
  • Experience researching and analyzing individual publicly listed securities of operating companies and selecting them for investment considered an asset
  • Experience utilizing fee-based solutions considered an asset
  • Experience utilizing ETF solutions considered an asset

Salary: This role offers a competitive compensation package under the Wealth Advisor compensation plan, designed to reward employees for driving business growth and expanding their client portfolio. The annual salary for this position is $65,000. The potential range for annual commission earnings can be anywhere from $50,000 to $80,000 however commission earnings have no minimum and no maximum and may fall outside the potential range depending on each individual's performance. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
