Water and Sewer Utilities Discipline Lead

Join our Civil Engineering Team in Tacoma as a Water and Sewer Utilities Discipline Lead, where you'll lead the growth and delivery of municipal water and sewer utility projects across the Pacific Northwest. In this role, you'll strengthen client relationships, guide business development, mentor team members, and oversee projects from pursuit through successful delivery. What You'll Do

As our Water and Sewer Utilities Discipline Lead, you'll spearhead our business development initiatives for utility engineering in the PNW and drive the expansion of our utilities-focused projects with dozens of existing municipal and utility district clients. Leveraging your expertise, you'll identify and capitalize on new project opportunities, while nurturing strong relationships with current clients and actively seeking out new ones. Success in this role also involves nurturing the professional growth of team members in both business development and project management, empowering them to realize their utmost potential. You'll collaborate closely with Psomas leadership and technical teams to expand the utilities practice while ensuring projects meet client goals, financial targets, and quality expectations.
  • Lead Practice Growth
    Guide the development of the Utility Design Discipline Business Plan, identify market opportunities, and help shape strategies that align with Psomas' strategic goals while supporting continued growth across the Pacific Northwest.
  • Build Client Relationships
    Develop and strengthen relationships with municipal, utility district, and consulting partners while coordinating business development and marketing efforts with leaders across Psomas.
  • Drive Project Success
    Secure and oversee utility-focused projects from pre-positioning and pursuit through planning, technical delivery, negotiations, financial management, and closeout.
  • Develop People and Teams
    Help attract new talent, mentor, and support team members, and share technical, client management, and project management expertise.
  • Collaborate and Deliver Results
    Work closely with Psomas leadership, engineers, discipline professionals, and support teams while monitoring project, business, and other key performance indicators (KPIs) such as chargeability, budget, revenue, and multiplier.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Washington
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible professional experience in water and sewer utilities engineering
  • Proven ability to support continuous learning, professional growth, and contribute to Psomas' collaborative, employee-owned culture and core values
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, with a strong interest in coaching, counseling, and influencing others
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to support business development strategies by securing new project and growth opportunities


Preferred Qualifications
  • 15+ years of experience with municipal water and sewer utilities, regulations, and infrastructure design
  • Experience in contributing to strategic planning and executing defined objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strategic connections with water and sewer professionals to advance regional infrastructure initiatives in the Pacific Northwest


Compensation & Benefits
  • Pay Range: $185,000 - $205,000 (commensurate with experience)
  • Incentives: Discretionary bonus and recognition programs
  • Time Off: 3 - 4 weeks PTO (depending on experience) plus 8 paid holidays
